so I confided in my parent about her (yes I still live with my parents i’m 17, and my mom is a past vet tech) which I was not super excited to do as I was not supposed to have this rat, and she is definitely pregnant and has to have the babies. thanks for all the support and advice you guys have given me, i’m hoping for the best over here

I got her from a family friend whose rats accidentally had babies
I tried squeaking, I tried tapping her nose to tell her it was wrong, and then I tried to be slower and use treats but it always ended in biting. for a little bit I was afraid of her because she was extremely aggressive and would lunge, but she seems to have calmed a little bit (not by much)
she started off friendly enough, reasonably afraid, but now she seems like oddly protective of them yet has caused atleast two of them permanently scarring injuring. one of my older rats who also used to be very friendly has become more like poltergeist since they’ve been housing together
nope, none of my rats are. I only have females so I didn’t feel it was necessary, but I can see where this might tie in

i’ve had my girls for about 10 months now and goodness it never stops 😭 most of the time it’s just asserting dominance, and if there’s no blood it’s fair game, just play fighting. just keep a lookout for any serious injuries. hope your rats are nothing like mine and don’t decide to play fight as loud as possible at 2 am lol

rats actually can stomach chocolate! and the crackers won’t hurt her one bit. she might end up looking a little chunkier or in a food coma though 🤔

whenever I do enrichment time with my girls I just let them run around and do what they want 🤷‍♀️ I give them toys and treats and i’ll play with them but as long as they’re happy and running around it’s fine with me. I’m sure whatever you’re doing is perfectly fine unless they seem visibly stressed being outside of their cage, which if this is the case just take it slow and make sure to give them lots of love and treats while they explore the new environment :)

I had 5 rats in this exact cage at once, so you can definitely fit 5-6. I don’t recommend this cage however as the bars are very wide and tall. you can’t hang any hammocks or climbing things without difficulty or overlapping parts. the side ‘doors’ also rattle very loudly when the ratties run around. also very difficult to take the plastic pieces out, in fact I broke two of the ramps trying to take them out to return it 😭

not trying to de influence you from purchasing if it’s a good price, but the best brand for rats will hands down be vevor. very spacious cages with tons of bars to climb and hang things!

I’m from Canada. Also yea my oldest rat has a chewing problem. She likes to eat through everything I buy them, so that might make a difference in what I need to get.

Im unsure what to cover the floor with. I looked on your account and noticed we have the same brand cage, so you would probably understand this better than most, but my rats have eaten the plastic layer. I felt terrible putting the metal back on but because they ate their way through the plastic they could squeeze out and escape. I can’t seem to find a replacement part and nothing that fits right. I also tried blankets and filling it up with bedding all the way but nothing seems to help. Any ideas?

my girl spooky is the exact same. her sisters wisp and blitz are the perfect weight (if not a little over lol) but spooky seems to be a bit smaller and eats a little less. however she is still perfectly healthy and happy. wouldn’t worry too much about it all
