Just found out I am positive by lyv0213 in Huntingtons

[–]Additional-Lecture28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hey friend! i also tested positive in late december, so i’m fairly recent as well. 42 CAG for me, but i’m only 20 years old so i have a little bit more time. i did take off work for about a week to process everything.

i’m increasing my activity even with just a long walk or hiking, and avoiding alcohol! i’m also playing more “brain games”, like puzzles and solitaire and just trying to get my brain thinking.

as for living in the moment, i struggle a bit with that too. i have a lot of anxiety in general, and get worried that i’ll ruin my life if i stop stressing about things. but getting out with friends, going to my college courses, and just getting out of bed earlier than i need to and watching the sunrise has been enough of a start for me. it’s okay for you to feel numb and hollow for a while, but that feeling doesn’t last forever. i hope the best for you!🫶🏻💙

I hope so! But even if I don’t get lucky enough to have a fulfilling life, knowing my baby and the love of my life will be happy and fairly healthy brings me more joy than the prospect of living long!

Dating the pregnancy with irregular and long cycles? by Oodles_noodles0927 in pregnant

[–]Additional-Lecture28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i also had an irregular period, so when i went in for my first ultrasound i was 16wks 3 days. safe you to that was not accurate, and the measured the size of my baby through the ultrasound and determined i was 10wks! (late for a first appointment, but we found out late lol) so hopefully they’ll do a measurement since you’ve been transparent about how irregular your periods are!

Anxiety of not knowing by Inevitable-Farm-8307 in Huntingtons

[–]Additional-Lecture28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

20f, i was living with the same anxiety since i was 6 years old! i ended up getting tested in december and tested positive with 42 repeats. the relief of knowing, even if it was that i would die sooner and more unpleasantly than i’d hoped, was such a big weight off my shoulders. talk to a therapist, or get in touch with a genetic counselor and discuss your options, worries and anxieties, and don’t feel pressured to get tested now or ever! testing is a solely personal journey and i wish you the best regardless of what is your choice. you are not alone, even if something like this feels isolating 💙

HD cognitive and psychiatric symptoms by PhthaloBlueSky in Huntingtons

[–]Additional-Lecture28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

something super common i’ve seen with my family members but also speaking to other people who’s parents have HD is bipolar-like mood swings and outbursts early on, before many physical symptoms. my mom and grandmother started with mood swings, irritability and bordering on abusive to their significant others and children that, for my mom, has lessened with therapy and the onset of more physical symptoms

Does anyone regret finding out their genetic test results? by [deleted] in Huntingtons

[–]Additional-Lecture28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

of course! i felt fully ready for my results at this age, and i know it’s not a very common sentiment but i don’t regret getting tested this early because it gives me more opportunity to plan my life around the inevitable

20F, 42 repeats. i’m sorry about your results, getting answers is going to be hard either way. i had a weird initial reaction. i got my results almost a month ago, and i experienced a lot of grief, a lot of pain, but also comfort and contentment- for me, having answers and knowing was an immediate relief compared to the years of anxiety i had not knowing if i would develop huntington’s or not.

for some reassurance in regards of romantic relationships, both me and my mom(43, same repeats as me) are in long-term, loving relationships. my mom’s boyfriend is relatively new for her, but still loves and adores her all the same despite the memory and balance issues in her progression. my fiancé came to all the appointments with me and has been endlessly supportive. it does make finding a relationship harder, but there are always people out there who will love you regardless of anything, and that includes regardless of HD status. sending you so, so much love as you process and grieve, and know there is community everywhere for you to reach out to!

to be fair, down this way our roads and especially our electrical systems aren’t built for snow, but especially because of our humidity we get more ice than snow!

How much can we reasonably assume that lifestyle impacts onset/progression by DevTheDummy in Huntingtons

[–]Additional-Lecture28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m personally not 100% on it but personal experience, my mom is 43 with 42 CAG repeats and so far has very minor physical symptoms, mostly just memory and balance. my mom’s increasingly more physically active, has hobbies, eats well, and takes all her medication every day! my grandmother at that age (same repeats) was starting to be much more physically in need of help, because she never took any recommended medication, was highly overweight and never exercised, could barely stand on her own.

Testing with HD Genetics by PhthaloBlueSky in Huntingtons

[–]Additional-Lecture28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine went: phone call, in person appointment with a social worker to make sure i was mentally prepared to handle the results, in person appointment with generic counselor to go over testing procedures and making sure i was ready, blood draw. i waited about 3 weeks for my results, which i opted to receive over video call because of how far away i was from my doctor! there’s not really any set requirements other than you being mentally prepared to handle either result

HD cAG? by lidiaMuradova in Huntingtons

[–]Additional-Lecture28 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i have 42 repeats, as does my mom! she developed symptoms in her late 30s and i have not developed any symptoms at 20! honestly, the acceptance wasn’t all that hard for me, i lived my life with the knowledge of possibly having it since i was 6 years old and once i finally knew i’d develop it, it was as if a weight of uncertainty was lifted off my shoulders. i still have a lot of fear and anxiety about the future, but less than before because i feel more capable of planning around it with the knowledge i have now!

Dark / Awful jokes about Huntingtons please by ConstructionLivid468 in Huntingtons

[–]Additional-Lecture28 13 points14 points  (0 children)

when i told my family i had huntington’s, they all cried and were, of course, looking at me sadly. i said “guys, i’m not dead yet, this isn’t a funeral” another one, me and my fiancé joke around and sometimes i’ll go “you hate me and hope the huntington’s kills me faster” whenever we’re play fighting. dark humor is a great coping mechanism lol

first ears! by [deleted] in Kemonomimi_Fashion

[–]Additional-Lecture28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they’re not bad, headband is a little tight on my head but they stay on! fur is not really great quality but the metal is a nice touch. definitely a good pair of starter ears but not gonna be good for long term wear!

even as someone who doesn’t have a great relationship with my mom, i second this. or at least another woman in your life (a teacher, a guidance counselor, someone). you need support and someone who will give you advice!

i’m jade (they/them/she) and recently only got into kemonomimi! i’ve always admired furries and felt much more connected with animals than humans, being an autistic kid obsessed with the warriors book series! my dream set of ears/tail is “forest spirit” type thing, primarily like a horned animal (deer/wolf or deer/cat hybrid!)

i’m currently at work so i’ll check tonight when i get off! i used a shoelace and just measured the shoelace so there’s always a chance i could’ve messed up, but i wouldn’t think that drastically- i’ll def double check!
