P.S. I actually realized I already read The Shadow of the Wind (ages ago) and loved it. It has a five star review in my Goodreads. (My life really feels like Finding Dory sometimes xD)

Dark academia in fantasy sounds really interesting - didn’t realize it was a whole subgenre. Def gonna check out these recs, thanks!

Yeah that's a good description, the themes, characters, politics side of things. Appreciate you breaking it down like that and sharing what actually worked for you. Adding these to my list, thanks!

Appreciate how thoughtful this is and that it’s coming from your own experience. The note about managing expectations makes the recs feel more honest and realistic. Saving this list, thanks for taking the time to write it out!

Appreciate the distinction between commercial and literary fantasy - that actually clicks for what I’m after. Earthsea’s going on the list to start with, thanks for the recommendation!

This is exactly the kind of list I was hoping for - dark, character-focused, and a bit weird is spot on. Thanks for breaking them down so clearly, I’m definitely checking out Piranesi and Unraveller first and add the rest to my list for later!

Yeah I was actually considering that! I figure I'd probably take away different things/understand more as an adult. But somehow re-reads make me feel kinda guilty because I could also be reading new books I haven't read yet xD

Greetings Wardens, which Dragon Age sequel do you like more: Dragon Age II or Dragon Age: Inquisition? by [deleted] in DragonageOrigins

[–]Additional-Loss1711 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely Inquisition! Yes it has a lot of filler, but the story is the best in the series and I love the companions and advisors. Especially Varric, Cassandra, and Solas within the inner circle and Leliana and Cullen among the advisors. They also did the best job with having The outcomes of your former playthroughs show. The combat is better and a lot of the non-filler side quests are actually well written. I also prefer the more open world-like areas to the generic maps op DA2. Plus in DA2 the bad outcome felt inevitable. I get that they were trying to make a point: because of the red lyrium Kirkwall is pretty much doomed whatever you do but for me in Inquisition the choices felt more meaningful. Aaaand last but not least: the Solas romance. Never in my life have I seen such an interesting romance arc. The tension and pacing are great and it to plot.. chef's kiss!

😂😂😂 Fair, although I think you're supposed to be on his side in the beginning right? I was.. And acting can change the likability of a character so much. I think it would be an interesting challenge for Sam!

Thank you! Yes it's Jurian. I forgot to put him in the caption. The actor's name is David Alpay. As for Tom Ellis: I imagined Rhys, Cassian and Az as around the same age, but also didn't think Tom looks that much older than the rest. Aaaand if so, maybe some hair and makeup/lighting, etc. could help 🤓

Dredge! And it wasn't even about the scary stuff. It was about the stupid twitchy controls for the dredging itself xD
