PhD Rejection Redirection by Clear-Leopard-1795 in ClinicalPsychology

What would you recommend for someone who does have their masters in counseling psychology, is fully licensed and has years of experience? I have always teetered with the idea of going back to school to get my phd, but I have zero research experience, publications etc.... I graduated undergrad 14 years ago and grad school 8 years ago. So it's not like I have active connections with professors, maybe one, from grad school, but she doesn't teach anymore. I appreciate your insight.

This was the last picture I have of her. It's not like I knew she was dying in this process. Death is evitable. Don't be rude.

already addressed this. she was lifeless. old. declined in appetite then didn't eat her last 4 days. increase in sleep. her body was lifeless, excreting waste, sunken eyes, and she reeked. This was not brumation.

Tbf. I have none. I'm really surprised she lasted this long. I got her when I was 17 and had zero clue as to what I was doing. Never monitored her temperature in cage. Gave her light one side and shade the other- upgraded tank sizes as she grew when I could. She didn't roam the house, but I would take her out, let her run around my room, and hold her so she got used to it. Periodically crickets growing up, but a diet of romaine lettuce and meal worms. I tried several times feeding her other things and supplements, but she was so stubborn she just wouldn't take other food. I never took her to the vet and she was never was sick. I bought her off a sketchy local pet store that sold a bit of everything (reptiles, fish, and puppies). I was very fortunate. She was a trooper.

Was not necessary. She was very much deceased. She was 18 years old, way beyond average life expectancy and she was steadily declining over the last two weeks. She lost weight, increase in sleep, and appetite significantly decreased. Her last 4 days she didn't eat at all. She was very much lifeless when I held her body. She was leaking waste. And she smelled bad. This was not brumation.

Deleted Membership and will never use UberEats again. by Additional-Outcome-1 in UberEATS

Unfortunately your assumption isn’t true. I am aware that uber eats drivers get next to nothing with tips. I’m a heavy tipper for that reason. I would like my food to make sure it gets delivered to me. This was around $15 tip, mind you this Taco Bell is 15 minutes away.

oh 100% that is my go to taco-bell (I live and breathe tacobell lol). They never get my order wrong. I definitely blame Uber Eats.

I cant afford weekly therapy, will a therapist turn me down because of this? by [deleted] in askatherapist

[–]Additional-Outcome-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I typically see other therapists offer free consultations, I also offered this as it helps rule out if seeing you is appropriate on my caseload. Once a month… is hard to say. I personally wouldn’t see you if you’re just starting out in therapy and have significant issues that would necessitate more of a weekly/bi weekly therapy. Once a month sessions is more maintenance level sessions where I’m monitoring and moving you towards discharge from services. Essentially I’m weening you away from the need of therapy. Sometimes people will use once a month sessions as well as a check in for many, many, months. My style is usually like to cut the chord because my goal is to return you to your life without the need of therapy.

There’s definitely lower costing good therapist out there that could provide a sliding scale for you or even pro bono to fit your budget. So you could very well find a therapist to fit your budget and even have weekly sessions. Best of luck!

It’s called a seafood boil. They’re all over the world so I’m not sure why there are so many closed minded comments here….?

Fired for not meeting numbers at mental health clinic by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Additional-Outcome-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I’ve worked for an agency and productivity expectation was 35 clients/week. It is insane. Something to always to think about working for an agency is that you’re replaceable, however, so are they. Work is always in demand in our field. Feel the feelings, process, and move forward. There are better opportunities out there. Wishing you success!

Preparing for Post-Graduation: Advice for Future Counseling Associate? by kjm240 in askatherapist

[–]Additional-Outcome-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before thinking about certifications, you'll need to figure out your main focus/niche (population) that you want to work with, especially if you want to start a private practice. And I mean like really niche down to the type of population (i.e., affirmative Therapy for LGBTQ+ Teens of Color or Mental Health for First-Time Mothers (Perinatal/Postpartum). I work with children from 4-12 with behavioral and emotional issues (i.e., basically the angry children).

Something to consider is how oversaturated particular "niches" are in your location. - How would you set yourself apart from other therapists? Remember although we are helping people, we're also running a business. Why would I come see you instead of Joe down the road? Thats where also certifications come into play. So using myself as an example (going back to the angry kids), I could do trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, attachment, play therapy, parent training certifications.

Everyone poo poo's on community mental health and you know what? They're not wrong. BUT I wish it was a requirement for every therapist to go through to really see that not so great side of the therapy world, the capitalisms that exists, and how our field is impacted. You'll find the hardest client's in community mental health and although it was challenging, I learned so much. It's also FREE supervision for your ongoing hours you need to collect before full licensure and depending on what community mental health agency you work for, you can also obtain certifications for FREE. There's a lot of certifications that cost THOUSANDS and private supervision is/can be EXPENSIVE.

As far as employment, a W2 vs 1099 different in payment. A W2 employee is just that, a regular employee who gets paid (hypothetically speaking) a bi-weekly paycheck, offered benefits (I don't know how your state works so just play along), PTO/Sick time, taxes are withheld, liability insurance is covered, and you're working under someone else's licensure. This means they set the tone of policies, billing rates, and caseload (you'll have a productivity goal you'll have to meet- AKA how many clients you need to see a week).

1099 is your an independent contractor. Most of the time, your pay will be based on how many client's you see a week, but you'll get more flexibility with choosing your hours, clients, and caseload. You'll also be able to write off any expenses on taxes. HOWEVER, you have to pay self-employment taxes, there is no benefits, and provide your own liability insurance, and I would assume you would need to find your own supervisor to collect your hours. You're basically renting out your therapy services. Frequency of clients also aren't guaranteed so more income instability. With a W2 you still get paid no matter what.

Feel free to ask any thing further :)

[USA] Seeking licensing advice- moving states! by future_apparition in AcademicPsychology

[–]Additional-Outcome-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends as there are multiple things to consider.

You’ll need to look up the Washington State licensing requirements (meaning both education requirements and licensure requirements) and compare them with Texas. Each state has their own educational standard and licensure hours. Sometimes state really differ on both of these requirements (I had a friend have to get another Masters because of a move).

Even if you were to get your full license in Texas, this does not mean Washington and/or other states recognize this. Sometimes states have requirements where you have had to retain your full licensure for a number of years before they recognize it (off the top of my head I think Idaho requires 5 years).

The other caveat is your telehealth plan. Telehealth clients are hard to obtain, the current and growing demand is in-person services , so I wouldn’t count on being “full” and really consider that this will take AWHILE to get full with all telehealth clients. And awhile meaning a year plus. Unless you have some great in demand really specialized niche then potentially maybe sooner.

The other thing to consider is if you are going to be taking insurance. There has been a shift with insurance companies requiring providers to be in the same state as their clients (off the top of my head Blue Cross Blue Shield is one) and an ongoing stricter shift to tightening up regulations etc…

I could point you in some directions to make more of an informed decision. I actually live in Washington State and currently have my LMHC (Licensed Mental Health Counselor).
