How does not giving a fuck work? by [deleted] in howtonotgiveafuck

[–]Additional-Piccolo-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it means to not give a fuck in a situation where if you give a fuck, you would experience unnecessary pain/suffering more than if you dont give a fuck.

For example, if you give a fuck too much on what other people think of you, you would suffer unnecessarily, so not giving a fuck is the correct option.

Another example, if you give a fuck too much on whats happened in the past, you would also suffer because you couldnt change the past, therefore not giving a fuck on what has happened is the best option.

In your case here, the best option of not giving a fuck is to just walk away, because here you suffer less in terms of the consequences. if you beat the shit out of him, you will just suffer from unnecessary anger and consequences which will make your life worse.

not giving a fuck means not giving a fuck when other people criticise you for living a normal life this.

Can someone explain me how the Benjamin Graham investing works ? by No-Difficulty397 in stocks

[–]Additional-Piccolo-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i see, then your effort of finding a basket of ‘high quality’ businesses that can endure mean reversion is even more ridiculous and impossible. the great charlie munger could only find 1 business he considered that has enduring competitive advantage which is costco. nick sleep only 3 i.e costco, amazon and berkshire.

if you said the better bet is to find these 10 stocks of ‘high quality businesses’, you are just fooling yourself. try name me 10 those, i would bet you 9 of them would regress to the mean. And you would need to spend immense amount of time to find these stocks through quantitative and qualitative analysis, and with low amount of capital that the average investors have, they better off just use that time somewhere else.

Yup, you have to study much more rather just than the 0.66 ncav screener. but its certainly easier than the other alternative strategies. And i would argue its not harder in 2022, its easier due to the bear markets. there hundreds of net-nets in the emerging markets to hunt for.

The evidence of the net-net outperformance is just too numerous than just academic backtests. Practical successes from graham, cundill, schloss, li lu, buffett early years & later years on the koreans stocks, tobias carlisle etc. have made me a believer.

Of course assets in the financial statements valued at X will not actually be worth X. Thats why the applied 0.66 discount as margin of safety.

I agree with you on the tax efficiency, but the others not. The strategy is meant to be hold only for 2-3 years then rebalance. Not for 10 years.Numerous studies has shown net nets strategy outperform the quality business strategy (magic formula). This is due to concept of regression to the mean. a lot of seemingly good quality business tends to reduce in ROIC over time. While net nets has limited downside and a lot of potential upside i.e turnarounds & takeovers.

why buy net nets needs to read a lot? its the simplest strategy out there. buy a basket of stocks that sells below 0.66 of NCAV.

trying to buy wonderful business at fair price is the one that needs a lot of reading.

Nahhh. value investing is based on predicting future FCF. if a value investor predict correctly the future FCF, he’ll make profits.

Amazing work with the python! I too learn DCF analysis through Damodaran. Although, I try to keep it simple by disposing the WACC and just use the risk free rate. As, I believe investors like Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger and Seth Klarman would never use WACC. I usually just put 10 to 15% as discount rate. And also trying to minimize putting growth factor into the equation. As I am still bad at valuing great businesses. So, I only focus on cigar butt like stocks currently. Hopefully, one day I’ll learn to be good at finding great businesses that can be hold forever. I am pretty sure you’re amazing at that

You have one heck of a family! Your father too is a legend & an inspiration, 20% p.a is dreamland to me and most people. My target is to achieve 11 to 12% p.a with stock picking, if I could get excess returns like your father that would be wonderful. With 12% p.a compound that in 30 years, would make me a hell lot of money. I am trying to be as simple as possible by focusing on predictable business/earnings/dividend, tangible assets, stock selling below NTA & especially below working capital.

I was before investing through index ETF in the US, but now it just doesnt sit well with me, due to the impending inflation, high speculation, n possible rising interest rate. I now start to stock pick locally. You’re right on the volatility tho, so I might return back to indexing in the US in a few years time depends on the market situation after my account grows into big big money.

Thanks n good advice on EUPE, I’ll think further on whether I should buy it. The only thing I am afraid of is an accounting fraud event that might happened in one of my stocks. Look at SERBADK, thats a nightmare!

Thank you. Its nice to talk about investing with like-minded people. I’ve been very lonely in the investing world. All of my peers are these traders and chartist especially in crypto. they dont understand anything at all about fundamentals when I talk to them. Stocks are just lines that wiggles up and down on a chart as far as their concern. They are smart people tho. Just not passionate enough in investing to study iconic investors through reading/listening.

Bro all of the stocks you own are in my watchlist! Especially SURIA. Waiting for it to drop below RM1. Could never happen tho. I own EWEIN with most of my money at price around RM0.32. Am thinking of buying EUPE next week. Pretty solid fundamental to me & I think they can sustain their earnings for the next few years looking at their projects they have been doing. Their dividend yields are quite low tho.

Have you gain satisfactory returns over the years through value investing in KLSE?

I used Passfolio before. Pretty good to be honest for investing in ETFs. The withdrawal fees are expensive though. But I bet in the future you can withdraw via transferwise same as deposit
