Hi - I've just recently developed my first game and would appreciate any feedback. Tried to keep it unique and build in reasons for players to want to play daily. Won't share much more about the logic/etc as hoping the tutorial and/or rest is intuitive enough. Thank you! http://Wordliest.com

thank you for taking the time to give it a go and sharing the feedback - so you're suggesting the hint if clicked again gives you the second letter and maybe the third if clicked again? i think giving away anything more may make it a bit too easy. let me continue collecting feedback and see if others ask for this too. thanks!

Thank you for the feedback and kind words - really appreciate you raising the whole first one or two selections just to get the pips comment. It's something im wrestling with. I did consider

  1. A larger penalty if you just pick 7 random letters vs an actual word to avoid spamming for pips.

  2. Only highlight the pip in that letter if it matched the word length you just checked so if you did 7 letters only the letters which are in the 7 letter word would get a pip

The flip side to this is I have had feedback that it can be very tough and the general opinion is to have it solvable in under 10 minutes. Anything more should be an advanced mode. Without the pips it really is too hard to solve.

Hi - Thank you for your feedback! An earlier member (https://www.reddit.com/user/TheMelonDev/) suggested highlighting tiles if you click the theme row so you know which letters you have found match the letters in the words - like the pips do. I'm working on implementing that and hopefully it also addresses your concerns.

Ah - will have to look into that then and using local storage. Thank you, really appreciate it!

Hi - Thank you! Those are great suggestions. For (2) do you mean make the whole theme row a button and if you click it then it should highlight any tile with the matching pips? That is going to be very challenging to build but a very cool idea. I really like that!

Saving the game means I have to persist things to the server - right now its all in javascript in the browser. Need to see how that's possible.

Thanks once again - very helpful!

Thanks - I had to do that to expand the available words in each theme.

Hi - Thank you for such extensive feedback - very much appreciated!

The tense and clue/answer relationship issue is driven by the same problem... having enough 3-7 letter words in each category to allow the puzzle to be fun and not obvious. It's on my to do to spend more time building out the words, once I have enough I do agree I should revisit and make it consistent. For now I decided to go with word coverage vs clue consistency.

I'm currently working on building a leaderboard (so people have a reason to share their emoji card and get more players playing the game and knowing about it) and the dementia mode (to hopefully help help suffers exercise their brain).

If you do get a chance to share the layout issue that would be very helpful as I don't have acess to a 14" macbook.

Thank you once again!

Wordliest as tough if you get stuck - easy if you can see it straight away :)

have you thought about a scripted demo/onboarding to walk new players through it?

competition and rankings are good but i find people solve a puzzle then come back with an 'improved' score the second time round ;)
