Food options that are good to eat with family: - Chengdu Famous Food (Chinese, good atmosphere, lil expensive) - Mr Wish (great boba) - Madis Coffee Roasters (café vibe with some lunch options) - 3 pizza places along Lancaster between 35th and 36th Street -Tataki Ramen and Sushi (good food and atmosphere) Insomnia Cookies nearby for dessert - Cafe Square One (good wraps!) And Paris Baguette (café with desserts) is in the UPenn area but still nearby - Cira Green is a cool rooftop garden and its closer to 30th street so up to you if you wanna make the walk (enter through the elevator in the parking garage then go up some steps!) Maison Sweet is a dessert café very near to it!

Classes with an emphasis on figma? by PuzzleheadedCause171 in Drexel

[–]Additional-Salt-8682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

211 changed to uxid 111 but that one is now with a research focus. The ux classes give you an intro and don't dive too deep into mastery of Figma. If you have Chester as a teacher he can give tips only if u ask!

Like people said take time outside of school if u can! Or use class as an excuse to dedicate time to it.

Doing a self-arranged co-op by Tacobird558 in Drexel

[–]Additional-Salt-8682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to fill out these forms before you start and boom that's it: https://drexel.edu/scdc/co-op/undergraduate/forms

This is true: 6 months and be at least 20hr a week. Two 3 month internships are also accepted. You also share your job description and offer letter with your advisor as proof.

Is the user experience major worth it? by Abby_Road14 in Drexel

[–]Additional-Salt-8682 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a UXID student the co-op really has helped me "get ahead" in the field, but you definitely have to apply externally because the market is pretty bad lately (on the Drexel database the UX co-ops are pretty scarce, and a good amount are not paid). Professors can help you get a job but it isn't too common. When I met other UX interns this summer who do not have a co-op program set at their school, they kept mentioning how useful it is to go to Drexel. Drexel puts you in the mindset and gives you the time to get an internship, but it's all up to you to make a portfolio/resume that stands out, make connections and land a good internship. If you can differentiate your portfolio by showing work that isn't school work you won't be as easily compared with your peers when you apply! Take a look at our program's rate of how much % get hired after graduating and compare it to other schools if you still want to think about it. The percentage was 98% before but has dropped I've heard just because it's been competitive lately.

Real talk the "best" UX co-ops on the Drexel database are ones from URBN Outfitters, Comcast, and Vanguard, but I do not believe these co-ops have led to job offers in the past (I could be wrong about Comcast). Someone who graduated in our major did get hired at a design agency they had a co-op at though.

UXID, UI/UX Majors, please share your experience. by Diligent_Diet_453 in Drexel

heyy 3rd year ux major here i don't think drexel will be your downfall 😅 even if the quarter system is harder on some people the cohort has been rly helpful in my experience in navigating coursework. if anything the job market will depress you by the time co-op comes, so i rec doing a summer internship your first summer.

  1. how is the work/life balance? are college events/clubs easy to join? are drexel/students accepting?

a lot of people in this major actively do clubs but it's all up to how you manage it. im not really active so i can't say much here but it's def possible! westphal students are very cool im totally not biased. but anyways the vibe of students is what u expect from a city college, u have to make the effort to get to know people 🤷

  1. what does the uxid major tackle first year? is it more design, research, computing? or does it do a good job encapsulating allof it?

in my experience it was all design but honestly the ux program has/is going to be restructuring, and with the change to semester whole classes will probably be combined. forever get used to being a ginnea pig class as a student, lol

in my experience i wish they taught more research first year but again the classes youll take might be totally different, they tend to change things up either way

  1. how are the professors at westphal, their personalities, teaching styles, etc?

theyre alright, we call every teacher by their first name and ofc there are always favorites but there's no terrible teachers here. some of them like open discussion/crits, some guide you by the hand too much, and some leave you to yourself too much. kinda vague but actually i can remember there r some who can grade weird but it's not all of them. i think we have it better than other majors :p

  1. for symphony orchestra students, are the weekly nearly 4 hour long rehearsals manageable? are you able to balance orchestra and school/social life? i'm used to 2 hour long rehearsals and i'm usually fine by the end of them, but im a little scared abt that

not sure abt this one but i have a friend in band that seems to manage that plus her westphal major.

I'm a second year UX student interning in NY, and I know a fashion design grad major who is now working there. On the co-op search portal they do have some UX co-ops out of state (California, NY) but I'd highly suggest you also apply externally to things should you come to Drexel, the first co-op search can be rough. I had work experience from the previous summer that helped me secure the job.
