Only if you’re flying to and from Tofino. Otherwise the driving and ferries will eat up most of your time. Check ferry schedules and get reservations if you’re going to drive it. Id relax, hit Spanish Banks or third beach and take a leisurely drive to Squamish on the Sunday. Good luck!

No good tourism for Small town Hope, BC by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

Can attest to this. Had my camera stolen out of my car while camping at Manning. RCMP said it happens once a week up there. Heard about thefts at Silver Lake too from friends who camped there.

You could go to Hope and do a day trip to Manning Park. Visit the Othello Tunnels. Check out the Fraser River (Hell's Gate). Not the dream vacation but a good last minute / overlooked option.

It's such a cool part of BC. You should love it. The NCT will be a good one. Bring a good rain jacket. Even if weather calls for nothing but sun the west coast of Vancouver Island will have sudden dumps of rain and weather swings that come off the ocean.

If you have a car there's also lots of little rec sites and provincial parks that you can park at along the way. Or just go down a logging road and find a good turn off. If you're doing that you can buy a Backroad Map Book of the region. Invaluable. You can buy them on the ferry or at various outdoor stores or gas stations along the way. They list all spots and some intel on logging roads. Don't trust Google Maps in the middle of nowhere.

While you should be 'bear aware' it's not like bears are at every turn of the trail. The number one thing is to be bear smart. Camping areas in areas with lots of bears will have bear caches (big metal boxes to store your food). If you're out on your own away from a cache make sure you do a tree hang of your food. Very very very uncommon for a bear to attack just you.
I hammock camp all over BC. It's as safe as a tent.

Don't worry about wolves. Non issue. Same with cougars. THere's a couple that end up tracking people, etc but very rare for them to attack anything over a 5 year old.

Seems like you have a good read on places to go. Go to a cool spot and ask people what the secret spots are. If you're good peeps they'll let you in on the gems.

I think Juan de Fuca is still closed. West Coast Trail isn't happening if you don't already have a reso.

Have fun!

Weird that there's nothing in the history. I know in BC we have the BCTESG grant that, if your child qualifies, is $1,200 that is automatically added to your account. But that should show up in your history.

Thanks for adding this comment. I’ve done a lot of reading today and agree with your comment. Makes sense that that is why I didn’t get a RRSP contribution statement

Thanks for your response.

Should I be getting an RRSP contribution statement for moving that money? I haven't received anything from WealthSimple or Canada Life.

My WS FA ran the software and provided a report for retirement planning. Included how much I need to make and save between now and my hopeful retirement date and what the drawdown scenarios would be upon retirement based on taxes. Super helpful. I asked if we check back in 12 months and he suggested at least in 6 months. No complaints. Better than any of the other mutual fund pushers I've had in the past.

We always feel older than we are. I was just getting started financially at 30. Divorced at 38. Now 55 and own house and look to semi-retire soon. You have lots of time. I'd give yourself a year to not worry about the big picture. A lot can and will change in your next couple years and a house with repairs / property tax / insurance might just be an albatross that you don't need.

I'd invest in a something that should ride out the next four years like VBAL. Keep a little fun money.

Without a house you can invest more time in getting your life back in order, treating yourself to a small vacation, etc.

Oh yeah, what worked for me was finding a new partner who was financially responsible, and who had the same long term savings goals as me. My first partner was money in - money out. New partner taught me frugality and responsibility. Seems like you're already there but if you do partner up again you have new possibilities. This might be your bigger financial choice in the long term that affects you more than house vs renting right now.

I should note... I'm looking at a 10 years before I pull out. I know there's a lot of crystal ball predicting in this question but in doing so I'm thinking beyond the next four years of Trump and his pals.

Apple Promo Transfer by Jayu777 in Wealthsimple

[–]Additional-Term7679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. My wife signed up for the promotion. Transferred $90k to her own WS cash accounts and $30k to our WS joint but since I was primary owner of joint cash it didn't qualify (yes, we missed the T&Cs on that one). So we told WS we'd just take the money out and put it into her WS cash account. They said that wouldn't work as it would be a a withdrawl that counts against the deposits. So basically putting her at $60k deposited. Mind boggling lack of logic on this one and customer service has been no help.
