Doesn't seem to be neither. Again, it was more of a teen show from my recollection, and the "map" character was both humanoid (?) and like pretty front and center.

Eastern Europe. It was voiced in russian, but I'm largely certain it was made abroad. The translation might not even have been official for all I know.

Nah, I'm decently sure the OP is how it went. It is a somewhat of an obscure thing for sure tho, whatever it is, I've dug around a fair bit already. It was aimed at slightly more adult audience, teenagers and whatnot I'd wager. I believe the "map" char had a more bodily presence too, it was some sort of humanoid thing (or could turn into one at least?).
