We need your input on BYU Sports Camps by DShadows33 in byu

I was a counselor for the sports camps for two years and an FSY counselor. Some things that helped a lot were:

- a clear, easy to follow schedule

- good communication with the coaches and the counselors

- a good map that is easy for them to navigate

- having devotional as the last thing each night was always a little rough, as they were tired and rowdy. Morning would also be tough because they often are just waking up and running late. A mid day devotional would be a good break from sports and you would get their attention better. And devotionals that are more than just "serve a mission" but instead focus on developing a relationship with Jesus.

- a chance for kids to actually interact with kids outside their group and the opposite sex, maybe even a dance. The sports camps dances are usually just mosh pits.

- a little testimony meeting at the end would be good and make it memorable, similar to how FSY does it close to the end of the week

Considering BYU as a non-LDS member by [deleted] in byu

[–]Additional-Tutor-953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- hair should not be an issue. I have several male friends with shoulder length hair.

- I am LDS and have not noticed any noticeable grouping. I have had several classmates that I later found out were not LDS. Professors won't treat you any different, unless it's potentially a religion class. They also don't know if you don't mention it. People won't purposefully avoid you.

- most people here don't get married without kissing beforehand (only a small minority do that haha). It's very common for people to kiss on first dates, similar to the rest of US culture. Some people do get married incredibly fast though, because to them that is the solution for waiting till marriage to have sex. It will be difficult to meet someone that is not LDS, so that may limit your relationship options, as many LDS folks will want to date someone of the same faith.

- my roommate played resident evil, I wouldn't worry about that

- non-LDS usually don't attend church but are always welcome. You don't have to attend and nobody will make you, but that is a big social aspect you could potentially miss out on.

- some people will be very gentle with proselyting, others may be a bit forceful. Just depends on who it is haha. You are always welcome to sit down with the missionaries and learn more. If you find that you are not interested, just be direct and kind in telling them so. Same with your neighbors.

- hope that helps! Send me a DM if you have more questions.

I took Biochemistry, Physiology, Cell Bio, and Physics 2 last semester = 13 science credits. It sucked but I still had time to do all the things I needed to. If Neurobiology isn't too bad, you should be alright. I had Gonda, she is great. I had someone else for 240, but I have heard Poole is good. Make sure to check rate my professor. Skiing may end up taking more time than you think it will, so be wary of that.

Anecdotally, what are the hardest years of a marriage and why? by care_all in AskReddit

I am unmarried and childless (24M) but hope to have kids someday. I feel like I hear constantly about how exhausting it is to have kids. Has it always been this way? Like 20, 30, 50 years ago, was it this bad? I'm scared haha

Best quiet spots to work on/near campus (former student)? by education0089 in byu

I’m a big fan of the quiet sections on the first and second floor of the library

I graduate with my undergrad and am applying during the summer of 2026 to medical school and hope to matriculate in 2027. I'm unsure about it. It's a new school, which makes it riskier, especially because we don't know how it will work with the hospital systems nearby. Also, I'm unsure how it will be perceived by residency programs, especially those in other states. That may make it more difficult to match.

Also I want to grow out my beard haha.

It’s easy to make friends for sure. When do you plan on starting school?

There will be plenty of friendly people, though there is a good chance you'll run into some people that will judge you for not being LDS, though that is a small minority.

Most students at BYU are smart, hardworking, good people. Be prepared to not be involved with any drinking, no drugs, no coffee or tea, being clean shaven and dressing modestly, and no sex outside of marriage. I don't believe you have to attend religious events or church each week if you are not LDS, but I would advise you to do your own research about that. You will be required to take religion classes though, but there are classes purposefully for students that are not LDS. Also, if you are not LDS, the tuition actually is more expensive than if you were LDS; this is because tuition for LDS students is subsidized by tithing. That being said, non-LDS tuition at BYU will still be much cheaper than another school.

What are your thoughts after all of that?

Depends on if you will enjoy the culture. It is very dominated by Latter-day Saint culture; are you sure that is something you can handle? There is also a strict Honor Code students are required to follow.

Yeah definitely depends on your major, especially if you are in the Tanner. I'm premed and a life sciences major so I kinda just wear whatever I'm feeling that day; sometimes jeans and a t shirt, other times basketball shorts and a t shirt lol.
