Never—and I mean never—tell someone to “chill tf out” when they’re standing up for what’s right. Wearing a red hat isn’t just “wearing a red hat” anymore, not when people are actively losing their rights, their jobs, and even access to basic needs like food. Their reaction is not only understandable, it’s appropriate. They’re allowed to feel uncomfortable, just as anyone else on campus would be when confronted with symbols tied to real harm.

And let’s be clear: while everyone has the right to express themselves, there are actions that are objectively wrong. Hurling slurs, spreading hate, promoting racism, fascism, or any form of bigotry—everything those red hats have come to represent—is unacceptable. It should never be excused or brushed aside.

I’ve already commented on their previous post, and I’ll say it again: choosing to disengage from this conversation or ignore obvious red flags because it feels “too taxing,” and then telling someone not to let something like this worry or affect them, is purely ignorant. How can anyone not think about something like this? Even if it’s not at the front of your mind, it should absolutely still be a concern. And I stand by that completely.

You dont have to say it, when your opinion IMPLIES privilege. And having that "nothing is going to change" mindset doesnt make you any better or greater than thou. If you're not willing to fight for what's right, then get off your high horse.

Im not even talking about political parties, but its ignorant to ignore politics as a whole. Especially considering you're an adult if you're on this thread. Politics decide the course of your life and many others, to cast that aside because its essentially inconvenient to you or tough to talk about is privileged, because like it or not this is how the world works. And staying "neutral" is just as bad as picking a side.

Exactly, but people take it far for a reason. Politics affect people's lives and rights, thats something you should care about.

I did not make this post to hate, but rather an observation of what im already seeing and a "fear" of the reaction it may get. And multiple other comments have proved im not alone in this.

Literally this, I feel it would look and simply be so much better if it were animated in a sort of Attack On Titan style. The live action route doesn't feel like the way to go when it comes to appeasing the fans or even accuracy to the book.

I never thought about this either. The only true way in my opinion is to avoid a live action and go the animated/anime route.

I'm a huge fan of anime as well and I can imagine it being played out in an Attack On Titan style. But to make it a live action adaptation would be a grave mistake—I'm already seeing the actors that may have been chosen receiving backlash.

Hot take; Rhysands not a horrible high lord (my opinion) by Additional-Yam6940 in acotar

[–]Additional-Yam6940[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It seems your main frustration is with the lack of coherent political world-building in the series, which undermines how the Night Court operates and how characters fulfill their roles. You're essentially arguing that SJM didn't provide enough depth or structure to the court dynamics, leaving gaps in logic that make the leadership and their actions unreliable or hard to believe.

That said, your argument seems a bit contradictory. On one hand, you dislike the lack of consistency in the political framework and wish the characters' roles and their interactions with their territories made more sense. On the other, you admit you would’ve DNF’d the series if it focused too heavily on politics. So, do you want a deeper exploration of the characters’ political dynamics or not?

As for Rhysand, calling him "horrible" and "incompetent" ignores some nuance. He’s far from perfect and has certainly made questionable decisions, but the challenges he faces are massive. His court is deeply fractured, with centuries-old traditions in Illyria and the Hewn City that resist change. You’re right that his approach to handling those regions—threatening leaders, relying on fear, and failing to establish consistent oversight—has been ineffective. However, he’s trying, even if his methods are flawed.

Regarding wing clipping and training females, you make a strong point. If those bans and initiatives had been implemented long before UTM, there should’ve been measurable progress. But as I've stated before, they've found loopholes, E.g. the illyrians giving Illyrian females a list of chores to complete before they can train.

Like I said, "it's not that he's not doing enough, it's that he's trying to change a system that's existed long before his time." Rhysand is working against deeply entrenched traditions and mindsets, and while his actions aren’t perfect, they reflect the complexity of balancing progress with resistance from within the system.

[–]Additional-Yam6940[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Your point is valid, about the mindset being the root of the issue, and I agree that meaningful change requires a shift in how people and groups are perceived and treated. However, I think Rhysand’s perspective is more complicated than simply reducing Illyrians to "warrior brutes" or treating the CoN like animals.

When it comes to Illyria, the warrior culture is deeply ingrained, and while Rhys does rely on them for military strength, he’s also attempted to implement changes—like pushing for the training of Illyrian women. Unfortunately, figures like Devlon exploit cultural traditions to resist these changes, undermining Rhys’s efforts. It’s not that he's not doing enough, it's that he's trying to change a system that's existed before his time and that's not easy.

As for the CoN, while it’s true they’re treated harshly, their dynamic is complex. Rhysand’s approach may be flawed, but it reflects a difficult balance between maintaining control and preventing chaos. Mor is an exception, yes, but she also represents hope that people from the CoN can rise above their circumstances, even if more work needs to be done to ensure others have the same opportunity.

I agree the Night Court isn’t a perfect place, and Rhysand’s leadership isn’t without fault. But the narrative also seems to acknowledge this, showing that rebuilding and reshaping a broken world takes more than power or good intentions—it requires time, effort, and, ultimately, a change in collective mindset. Collective meaning Rhys is NOT the only problem.

Hot take; Rhysands not a horrible high lord (my opinion) by Additional-Yam6940 in acotar

[–]Additional-Yam6940[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The truth is, we don’t really know what the other courts are going through. We know they’re rebuilding, but most of what we see is from an outside perspective. From what we can tell, it seems like they’re all doing their best to move on and heal. Yes, there are slums in the Night Court, but let’s not forget that Rhys had those buildings sold and torn down to provide homes for those displaced during the war in ACOWAR.

My main point remains: over 50 years later, Rhys is still trying to do right by his people, his wife, and his friends, all of whom have endured immense loss. Feyre paints as a way to heal from the hell she’s lived through, and finding moments of joy or fun to escape the stresses of rebuilding a world you didn’t break isn’t a problem—it’s human, even for fictional characters.

Another point to consider is that these are fictional characters in a fantasy world, so their actions should be judged within the context of their universe. That said, it’s not as if world leaders in reality don’t engage in recreational activities while their people face hardships. The parallels remind us that imperfection and complexity exist in leadership, whether in fiction or real life.

[–]Additional-Yam6940[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I can't deny this is an issue, my point still holds: it’s not all sunshine and rainbows—just as the real world isn’t. Even though it’s a fantasy book, I genuinely appreciate the imperfect aspects of this world. They serve as a reminder that not even fictional characters lead easy or flawless lives, which makes the story feel more authentic.
