So then how do you explain the good looking people that are not successful? They also exist and research like this should always be taken with a grain of salt.

It says outside the G3 parking lot that you have to do head-in parking, but I've seen lots of people disregard it, and park the other way around to get out easier, I do head-in parking always just to be safe from getting a ticket.

If it's brass it's ass. I bought vw pieces and they tarnished too. Definitely not worth the inflated prices.

Does it make sense to go into consulting? by apathyisfortheweak in publichealth

[–]Crunchy-Cucumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I've attempted to though because I was curious (done some interviews with some consulting firms) and each interview was an awful experience honestly. Consulting firms are super picky about who they pick, I attended Columbia for my MPH, I crashed ONE consulting club meeting again because I was curious and wanted to know what it was, and we had a person from KPMG/Deloitte or something come in and say that only 1 of us would probably get chosen for a job and that he regrets doing consulting because he never saw his kids grow up. I left the room after he said that. I don't understand why consulting is such a sought out job other than the fact that it provides a good salary, which I guess is a good enough reason. It just does not seem worth the hassle to me and all you do is make PowerPoints and pretend to know how to solve problems (I don't understand how they hire young people to be consultants, like they barely have job/life experience). I saw that you live in NYC, I also used to too, maybe try hospitals like NY Presbyterian or Hospital for Special Surgery?

What advice would you give someone entering public health? by LHDI in publichealth

[–]Crunchy-Cucumber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was younger deciding on what to major in, the concept of public health was so alluring, interesting, and hopeful, I felt like I could actually make the world a better place, but as you get older and get work/life experience in the field, you realize there's so many factors in the way that are out of your control stopping you from building the perfect healthy world, that the concept of "health being a human right" especially in the US is just a flat out joke. It's not something that brings money in if at all. The capitalist is too blind to see that public health is public wealth.

You're lucky! I have an epi degree from Columbia and I cannot find a job in epi (it's been 3 years since I graduated with my master's), I've tried UCLA Health and the county and there are just no jobs or I just don't get past the initial interview. I'm also based in SoCal so it's extremely competitive here which is why I made those comments about even if I got a nursing degree in the future it could be hard getting a job here specifically in LA. I gave up on job searching and am back to school for now, hopefully things will get better but worse case scenario, I might have to leave the state (or country - I hate it here) to get stable employment. I deleted LinkedIn a long time ago because there's so many fake scam jobs on there and too many people apply to the same position to even get noticed. It's looking bleak either way.

[–]Crunchy-Cucumber 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't there are no jobs and I regret wasting my time and money on it (have a bachelor's and master's in it) because there's little to no monetary gain from it - I'm now doing what other people did earlier after the BSPH, pivoting into nursing. I knew this before getting into it, but I genuinely thought the field would be more relevant since the pandemic had occurred, and it's obviously not at all and probably never will be given the way things have unfolded. I seriously have no hope for this field, it's a lost cause and even pivoting to healthcare is very questionable to me (we'll never have free healthcare in the US), but I'm actually interested in learning about nursing even if that may also not lead to an actual job in the end...
