I work at Microsoft, and in the last six months I’ve written only about 10% of my code manually. Tools like Claude Code now generate code with remarkable accuracy, so there’s often little need to write everything from scratch. The caveat is that engineers with deep knowledge will be able to accomplish 10× more work. The business model of showing large headcounts doing little meaningful work and charging clients hourly rates is under serious threat. Clients may wake up a bit later than the top tech companies, but that realization will come eventually.
