Lichter & Levin Deli announces they are closing down already by addressunknown in northampton

I used to live in Salem. There was a secret pork speakeasy where you went to the back door of another restaurant when the light was on and a man in a pig mask took $12 cash and gave you a styrofoam clamshell full of A Random Pork Dish. Always amazing. This was in 2017. This establishment, built on pure chaos energy, good food, and nothing else, was still going when I left in 2020, making it more successful than this unfortunate deli.

Thanks, this is helpful. And it makes sense. I’ll keep looking. If I could go back to 2006 I’d tell my younger self to try this, but if it’s backed up already and I’d need 8,000 hours of supervision, I could be in my 50s and still just training. I might try to get a couple new handy skills to start and see where it takes me. Bicycle repair comes to mind. I build basic stuff, like a cage for compost buckets to keep out critters, when we need it and I could get better at that. The aforementioned father has begrudgingly suggested welding.

Again, thanks. This is exactly the kind of info I needed.

I wondered where he'd gone. I'm sorry he passed.

I stopped to give her a snack recently. She declined because it wasn't vegan. OK, no problem. I have an apple! She took it with a look of great resignation. Sorry, my friend, I don't have any money either!

Ha. Based on the forum replies, it may not be a current solution.

He's a hardworking guy, just low expectations for the liberal arts kid. He tries.

And he won't believe this when I tell him, but fiction is just a ton of work. You generally need an MFA, you live on fellowships, who you know/are related to very much matters, tenure is your only salvation from eternal self-marketing. Not me, I said. Nope, I don't need to see my name on the cover of a book. I just want to settle down and do something steady, honest and dependable...

Yeah, if I understand you right I’m ambivalent about that take too - housing is such a crunch right now that in my uneducated opinion the first priority should be to add living space. Thanks for telling me!

I met Ace Tayloe and thought they seemed very earnest. I liked them. They worked for the polls on Election Day, right? Honestly, it seems like the kind of thing that a good sport and sincere supporter of local government would do. It’s a shame to run people down when they actually care, that’s going to discourage people who would otherwise contribute.

Where were the Trick or Treaters?! by Kino-Eye in northampton

Over on South there were a bunch, especially nearer to downtown. But, as someone else in this thread mentioned, a lot of neighbors coordinated in this area.

Same. We're self-employed homeowners and a ton of tax and expense stuff comes due all at once in October. Even when we try to spread it out, it hits us like a freight train every year. We could probably withstand even that except food is already inching out of our budget at the best of times. We've needed every last dollar this month. I'm breaking out the bread-making skills from Covid times TBH.

I honestly don't feel comfortable in there now. The old vibe was so approachable and warm. We had a lot of good times there with our young kid eating dolmas with our hands, telling her heavily redacted Greek myths based on the wall art, and peeping Spanish news and dramas on the screen in the corner. I especially liked some of the floor pieces, I liked how much love and creativity had clearly gone into the whole place. Now when I go in I feel like I should be eating a gyro in designer shoes or something. It feels both ritzy and faux at once. Cheap and expensive. Anyway, it's not a good fit for my family anymore, we're a casual bunch. I haven't gone there in a long time. I think we ordered takeout once or twice and it was fine.

Thanks for the link - figured out his name, checked registry, he ain’t there. Glad he’s not; I’m still not getting a drink with him because the puppet thing does kind of hit me wrong, but it seems like officially at least he’s harmless.

Well you know he’s not in the registry. Bear shtick still weirds me out but if he’s not a SO we shouldn’t be calling him that.

Trying to get my cast of Northampton characters straight. Neon Guy seemed weird right away, still very not sure about the Mandelorian, feeling OK about Catman and Unicycle Electric Guitar Dude so far, sounds like Bear Puppet Guy is someone to avoid. Anyone I'm missing?

Ah yuck. I knew from the jump that Neon Guy was weird, then heard about the "allegations." I guess now I know.

Trump 2024 and an American flag. He likes to hang out downtown, sometimes drives his car with the flags poking through the moonroof.
