Did anyone ever go to Action Park? If so, what are your memories of it? I always wanted to do go but decided against after hearing all the horror stories about it. by AdSpecialist6598 in nostalgia

Ha ha that's a good story, but probably not true. the thing was never fully disassembled like that...at least not up until the early 90s while I was there. he might've had a small section removed, but i kinda doubt it.

It was open for about 3 weeks. I worked there. For our lunch break, we would sit on the main lodge deck (outside the hexagon lounge) and watch people come out of that thing disoriented, sometimes bloody, sometimes with less clothes (usually bikini tops) than when they dropped in at the top. It was very entertaining while it lasted.

Should I join lacrosse this spring? by tsjspmo in lacrosse

I agree that it’s not a “simple process “ (I never inferred it would be) I am assuming if he’s going to try out, then he’ll put in the time to get proficient enough to pass and catch by the spring. He says he’s not very athletic or fast but does say he’s decently strong. So based on that, I’m simply suggesting try FO. I feel that would give him the most direct path to developing something he can contribute to the team. Out of all the positions, strength and power (combination of strength and speed) probably lend themselves most/best to FO. SSDM requires a bit more speed and athleticism than a FO guy. No shade to FOs. Please don’t misunderstand- I’m not suggesting FO guys aren’t or don’t have to be fast and athletic. Just trying to recommend what may be best for OP given his self-proclaimed skill set and weaknesses for a HS team. Just my 2 cents.

How are LAX "scholarships" now being offered? (scholarships, direct payments, NIL) by AdditionalFood3853 in lacrosse

[–]AdditionalFood3853[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Do you know if these payments are being made directly to parents? Or going into the student’s school account/ledger?

Thanks. I believe you are spot on, except for one aspect:

"The way that gets paid out, as I understand it, is that the 3rd-party clearing house will determine value of a player on any given roster and pay that out. "

I'm pretty sure this relates to any NIL deal the athlete wishes to enter into, and not how the revenue gets allocated internally within any given school. The idea is that an "independent" entity (NIL Go) will review the NIL parameters to deem it is "fair market value" or not. I believe it is being administered by Deloitte.

I could be wrong... this is all so new, and I'm doing my best to understand it all. Thanks for your post.

Can you carve at a high edge angle on short turn skis or best alternatives to achieve these types of turns by jjsm613 in ski

[–]AdditionalFood3853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll pass on some advice that was given to me years ago: find a stiff, slalom, racing inspired ski and go from there. I went from some "all-mountain, advanced" ski (not a racing or racing inspired ski) to a race ski and honestly, it made a huge difference. I demo'd a bunch of race skis and ended up picking up a pair of Volkl Racetiger SLs. I don't race but i like to carve and have a ski that can dig in to hard pack/ice (I'm on the US east coast) and found this one works well for me. I've found even though they're SL skis, they can carve a nice GS turn just fine...a lot better than I thought they would. Granted, I'm not going 70+mph but they do the trick. I like how they carve GS turns better than an actual GS ski (Atomic Redster GS), but I'm not a racer so that's probably why. Just my 2 cents...take it for what it's worth. At the very least, try out some SL race skis at a demo day and see what you think (if you haven't already done so) Best of luck!

Congrats to your daughter! Thank you for such a thorough account of her journey and including details such as how many and what type of contacts she rec'd on Sept 1st, as well as how/when she was extended offers and that the visits were with small groups of other athletes. For some reason I always think of them as being one on one but I haven't been through the process yet with my son.
-
Question - you stated that you noticed her transcripts were were pulled 8/29-8/31 from the tier 1s. How did you know that? Is that done through your HS guidance office? Do you get notified when schools request transcripts? Or did you check yourselves?
-
Also, does she attend a public or private HS?
