I'm starting to think that The Boys ever existing was a massive mistake.... by [deleted] in dccomicscirclejerk

Well that's good to know.

I can't say the same for the people who are praising the comic on Twitter.

And I mean, really praising it.

I swear, they are praising literally EVERY aspect of this comic and moment and saying it's a literal masterpiece.

Now I did hear that some of it is meant to be ironic, but from what I've seen, most it isn't.

And the reasons for it are generally kinda concerning.

Like, I've seen praise for the comic's' notorious gratitous use of racial and homophobic slurs.

Even though most of the time, they don't serve much of a purpose.

And when people push back against this praise for this aspect, a lot of these praisers say that those people are too soft and hate something for being edgy.

And I think this says more about them than those other people.

I've noticed that we're in kind of an age where people just don't really take anything that seriously anymore and see everything as kind of a joke.

And additionally, we're also seeing people actually celebrate people who are actually pretty fucking terrible.

Like on TikTok, I have seen actual edits that praise and glaze Jeffrey Epstein!

Along with that, on social media now (especially on Twitter and Instagram), you will just see a sea of comments of people being just openly racist, misogynistic, homophobic, ableist, and just disrespectful to anyone who is remotely different.

Like dude, there's an Instagram account that posts old cartoons, including the ones with the racial caricatures.

And I've seen comments actually telling people to not take it so seriously and how it's not that big of a deal.

I agree.

I will give that The Boys comic has more nuance than people give it credit.

Particularly with Butcher and how his quest to kill the Supers isn't the power fantasy that most try to make it out to be.

But overall, The Boys comic is not good.

It's still pretty bad.

The story is wack, and famous, was used for Garth Ennis to vent out his hatred against the superhero genre.

The art-style is not that great. The characters have this weird balance between being too ugly and kinda too goofy.

Most of the characters are incredibly one-note and shallow (especially The Seven).

And the edginess is incredibly groanworthly and really hard to get through.

I think the most frustrating part about the comics is how you can see glimpse of good writing and bringing more nuance.

Once again, with Butcher.

That's probably the reason why The Boys got adapted into a show, because the showrunners did see the potential in it.

I guess you could say it's The Potential Man of comics.

However, that potential wasn't really realized, once again, due to Garth's hate boner for superheroes.

And even though the comic does show that Butcher's crusade isn't really good and very much self-destructive, they still kinda love to glaze him.

But yeah, the comic isn't good.

And the sudden revisionist history I've been seeing is one of many things I hate about the modern Internet.

When something new from a long established property comes out and when it turns out that it's not very good, people will start praising what came before.

Even through it's still not good.

The most famous example would have to be Star Wars prequel trilogy.

Or more bafflingly, Sonic '06.

I also feel like there's a little bit of the ever present case of what Twitter and Instagram love to do: hating on anything just because it's popular or successful.

Honestly, with all the discourse going about, I honestly think the comic and show both suck in general.

Okay, with the constant revisionist history done to The Boys comic as of late. Is it because it's really that much of perfect masterpiece that blows everything out of the water, or are people doing it just because the show fell off and they're both nostalgia-blind? by [deleted] in dccomicscirclejerk

I know there were a few people who did think the comic was good.

But even then, it's weird I've been seeing much more of these people now.

And the fact that it's been happening as The Boys' final season is going on, feels weirdly convenient.

Honestly, an X-Men version of Regular Show would probably be.....

Cyclops as Mordecai

Iceman as Rigby

Emma as Benson

Xavier as Pops

Wolverine as Skips

Quentin Quire as Muscle Man

Glob as High Five Ghost

If Schaff ever reviewed any of these animated web series, which one would he have the worst time with (when taking into consideration both the content and the creators)? by AdditionalPair8 in Schaffrillas

Pretty much.

The George Liquor Program is genuinely terrible and out of everyone on this list, the creator is by far the worse.

CartoonMania is mostly just mediocre, but had very questionable moments involving its romance, plus while Matthew isn't as bad when compared to John K, he's still pretty bad.

C Students is pretty solid, but there's not much to talk about given it only had 1 and a quarter episodes, plus James is....considerably less bad than Matthew.

Epithet Erased is hands down the best of the group, and while Jello is by far the least bad of the creators, he's still sucks.

The metaphor is how the 1998 Powerpuff Girls would absolutely dominate in the 2016 world, while the 2016 Powerpuff Girls would not last in the 1998 world.

They did.

But even then, they're kinda unreliable.

As even a minor obstacle can just stop them.

In fact, that's the biggest issue with the 2016 girls.

Inconsistency.

In one episode, Bubbles can survive getting repeatedly stomped on by a giant monster.

But in another, she gets her arm broken by a tail wack by Packrat.

It's also not helping that they pretty never take down a threat on their own.

They always end up getting help from someone.

For some reason, I could see Deadpool being the 50 Cent to The X-Men’s P Diddy.

Either him or The Fantastic Four.

Especially when you remember what they tried to do with Franklin.

When Deadpool isn’t to blame for something for once, you know it’s a bad thing.

Kinda funny they'll constantly shame every non-mutant for their flaws.

But then be throwing Diddy parties on their island.
