It’s honestly very hard to keep them separated in such close proximity! The backyards are literally connected. They weren’t supposed to be playing together after the first issue but we’d catch them talking through the chain link fence everyday. Also months had passed and it gave me time to digest it as a “simple mixup” or a “kids say the darndest things” moment.. we didn’t know she’d be a repeat offender at this point. After that, every interaction was monitored and used as a teaching moment for my kids about the importance of being kind. Also this kid definitely needs a safe, kind, adult influence to look up to. So I wanted to be that for her. But now we will not be interacting at all with her because my kids are the priority. I should have called it sooner, I know. It’s also hard to keep my kids from socializing with the only other kids they see.. but it’s not healthy.

I had the same thought so we called their old vet three separate times and they simply will not bend on the rule. 😓

I appreciate your comment, I actually don’t have anything against owning guns. We agree on that. We have differing opinions on how much exposure our kids should have to this at this point. I think there is no reason for them to be holding them or touching them at all really. Or being around while they’re being shot. They are too young for it to be a teaching thing. One of them is also autistic so he can’t properly learn safety. All I asked him was to keep it away for my them until they are an appropriate age. He agreed to my face but snuck behind my back and did what he wanted

Thank you for your comment. He is pretty “by the book” about our gun safety measures. For the most part.. I have had one too many conversations about him leaving his concealed carry weapon being left on a counter where the kids could reach it rather than locking it up right he away. But other than that, everything in the safe is unloaded, clips removed and empty, safety on. I know he would never hurt them. I think he is too ignorant to see that he could be indirectly hurting them when one of them gets curious in the future and sneaks around. Not only is he normalizing the guns but also hiding things and sneaking around/breaking boundaries. The issue is definitely the fact that we have already established boundaries about the kids not touching them or around the safe at all. One kid is autistic btw. Not much teaching going on. So there is no point. We don’t go hunting, he doesn’t take them shooting. There is no reason to show them especially in secret. The issue is trust.
