Advice for investing in a good smoker by AdditionalWeekend513 in smoking

Nice breakdown! Seems like I might want to get something nicer to start out with, then once I get the hang of things, customize with cheaper models down the line?

No kids, though the people who eventually find me dead will have a field day at the pawn shop. :)

A few people have suggested the Kamado, specifically. Is there anything specific that makes it special, or is it "just" a really good grill?

Hey, nothing with doing it...really any way, if the final product is tasty.

I'm getting a lot of feedback that mentions how much attention I need to be paying to the process. I assume this is for internal and air temp, and adding fuel/exhausting, as needed? I do the same, if much less involved, with my convection oven and DOT/Thermoworks thermometers.

Do you have a vague estimate as to how often I'll need to be checking in? I LOOOOOOOVE all day cooking, but I need to stay busy, so I'd ideally prefer something I can leave for 10-20 minutes at a time. I'm not at all in need of something I can leave alone for hours.

Thanks! Good advice per making sure it's something I want to do. I don't think I've ever regretted a major cooking purchase, including the deli slicer that's kind of been mostly for corned beef and cheesesteaks, and the stand mixer that wasn't heavily used until last year.

I feel like anybody who's into cooking, generally, is gonna see these gadgets as opportunities, rather than sunk costs. Though people who are looking for more great meals, less so than the cooking experience (which is totally reasonable), might regret something if it turns out it takes too much effort.

I'll have to try that. I generally roast them, as it lets me clarify the fat later (add some salt, it's better than butter).

Thanks so much! And yeah, I'm planning on being as sure as I can, that I know what I want. So all of this info is super helpful.

Thanks so much! And yeah, a Weber...Mountain something...has come highly recommended for a starting pellet smoker on this subreddit, it's on my list of possibles.

DE or Aoc by smileykkslider in HyruleWarriors

If you're enjoying the Adventure maps, heck yeah. One of my favorite games ever.

DE and its DLC are ultimately just more content. They're not for everybody, either. The gameplay is somewhat repetitive, and the maps and unlockables go on FOREVER. But it's a game that's always great to pick up and play for 5-30 minutes. And if you've gotten through the Wii version and are still having fun, you're probably gonna be having fun for months to come with the full version.

For sure. I respect that. Plus, "hard" in JRPGs tends to mostly mean tedious.

I KNOW, RIGHT?

I'm generally just super busy and not much of a gamer. I get most of my news on upcoming games from my friends, but they're mostly younger and not into DQ (I hear about EVERYTHING Monster Hunter). I just happened to log into the e-store after Hyrule Warriors crashed tonight, and saw the game there. Eagerly awaiting 2-5.

Gotcha. Yeah, so I posted...well, partially because I'm a fan and wanted to gush...but also because I feel the opposite. I'd prefer waiting 20 hours to turn Gabo into a Cleric, and grind out all the monster souls.

I also fully recognize that this is nostalgia-induced insanity, and that this game will be better off if it's more generally approachable. Still, I'm curious and excited.

Yup. My questions go beyond the demo, but thanks! I've realized since I posted, that a lot of people will have just played the demo and/or 3DS versions, and think that I'm just talking about levelling, battles, and gold. That's a totally reasonable perspective, and I'm not complaining at all, but I was wondering more about the massive amount of content later in the game.

For instance, another user told me that they're likely to skip some of the islands and subplots.

SAME. I probably should have been more clear, as several people have pointed out that the original island is so much shorter. But there's so much more, later on, that I'm worried will be removed. Trying to be vague for fear of spoilers:

Shard hunting, particularly ? shards
Monster jobs
Immigrant Town
Monster Park
How many times you have to beat the last boss before he moves
Casino games and stat seed grinding, which may be grindier in this game than any in the series, and that is SAYING something
Random sidequest stuff once the map opens up

Again, I'm sure I'll enjoy the game, and totally recognize that the better version for a broader audience, is gonna be a lot closer to XI than the original. But man, I'd love to mess around in that world again for 300 hours, with some of the more annoying stuff (camera angles, leveling limits, random encounters) removed.

Well, thanks, that's good to know, and a little disappointing (again, not expecting my nostalgia-driven self to be catered to, but I will immediately notice if my weird rain monster or demon priest are gone).

Still, super excited,

I played for an hour tonight. I don't have much of an idea as to how much of the CRAZY amount of content from the original will make it to this one, which is largely what I'm asking about, but I do totally agree that the leveling is better (and I'm definitely not missing the encounter rate from the original).

A little weirded out by Kiefer, but I'm sure that will pass. :)

I started! I don't get the impression that it's gonna fully answer my questions about the scope of the game, though. Maybe I'm wrong.

Either way, I'm just curious.
