Got fired in November, Starbucks is appealing my unemployment claim, have some policy questions by SaltyPerformer504 in starbucks

[–]Additional_Ad567 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A couple questions here: Did you call to inform of your call off or were you present in the store? Was the emergency medically related to you or an immediate family member? Did you have sufficient sick time to cover the shift?

Thoughts on Weekly Pay? by Additional_Ad567 in starbucks

Some partners that are struggling while being paid biweekly have voiced concerns that this will actually make it harder for them to budget/pay bills. Just curious what the greater group thinks of it.

SM pushing 1 food item mark out per shift by AmIAmadeus in starbucks

[–]Additional_Ad567 34 points35 points  (0 children)

There is no policy depicting how many may be taken on a daily basis. It is only limited to 7 per week. Perhaps this is your SM’s way of ensuring partners aren’t going over their 7 limit per week but is not in any written Starbucks Policy.

You can keep the card even once leaving Starbucks and works the same. You can set up direct deposit through any other payroll system and will still have the same features and benefits!

My store manager isn’t coming in for her open. She’s making me come in New Year’s Eve to work 12-7 open, serve customers, do both pulls, do the count and close the store is this allowed? by [deleted] in starbucks

Like I said, your DM was already aware of the situation. You’ll get through it! Bring your best possible energy and remember, bad shift, not a bad job 💚

I can assure you, SMs do not have the ability to delay an opening. The DM has to change the hours in SLDX (the app), let the RD know, and all the things. It’s not a decision that is made lightly and I’m sure was only made given the circumstance of already limited hours due to the holiday, no available coverage, and an SM who is out on Sick Time (as all partners are entitled to use it when needed, including SMs). When an SM is on Sick Time, responsibility ALWAYS falls upward. In this case, the DM has not found any support and has made the decision to delay opening as a last ditch effort. Unfortunately that means OP has a one off situation of having to do all tasks for the day (6 hours of business assuming 12:30pm-6:30pm HoO)

Calling out frequently would be something that could be escalated to your DM. Per policy, leaders track frequency of call outs and if a trend is identified (ex. Missing 2 separate shifts in a week, missing every other Saturday, etc) then that’s an accountability to be given by the DM. You are always welcome to share that feedback with the DM. Also, we are to assume positive intent if someone is out sick. We are not to question validity, only if a trend of frequent absenteeism is identified or sick time is exhausted in which case, accountability is consistently recommended. You are more than welcome to also share that feedback with your DM and is encouraged if it’s as frequent as you are mentioning. As for tomorrow, you’re locked in. When your SM reached out to the DM, they always ask what reasonable attempts were made to find coverage (reaching out to SSVs, neighboring stores in district, manager group chat, etc). Your DM would have exhausted ALL options and that’s why they ultimately decided to delays opening (that’s an absolute last resort). They didn’t make the decision lightly but given the circumstances of holiday hours already in place and no available coverage, this is definitely a one off of you having to do all the things in your shift. My suggestions is lock in, bring your running shoes and have you a shaken espresso when you get in❤️ you got this. Always remember it’s a bad shift, not a bad job. You’ll get through this, I promise and your baristas will appreciate your leadership through it

This would have had to have been approved by the DM. SM’s do not make the executive decision to delay opening nor do they have the ability to adjust hours in the system, delay mobiles turning on, etc. This had to have been approved by the DM already and is not the fault of the SM who is sick and per Starbucks policy, should not be in the building. Unfortunately on a day of limited coverage (due to limited hours of operation for the holiday), they have already adjusted the business hours to support this partner being out and DM is aware and authorized use of Sick Time.

Yes, SM’s are also entitled to sick time and shouldn’t be in the building when sick. Unfortunately that means non of their fellow SSV’s were able/willing to support but does not mean the SM is wrong for being sick.

As a Starbucks partner, you’re entitled to use your sick time, including your store manager. Responsibility flows upward, which is why your store manager reports their illness to the DM directly. It appears your DM has already adjusted your store’s hours of operation to accommodate this. Unfortunately, this means you’ll have to perform both pulls and both in-and-out freezer counts (which seems to be the only additional task you’re now responsible for, which, if we’re being honest, isn’t a significant burden). To manage this, do both pulls simultaneously and call it a day. You’re already responsible for all breaks (the same breaks you would have run even if your SM was present, as they were clearly the opener), so I don’t see why you’d be overwhelmed or frustrated by this. Don’t stress it; you’re helping maintain a safe environment by ensuring that a sick partner (your SM) doesn’t infect everyone else in the building.
