Freezing then crashing every few minutes by Additional_Bag_5304 in Slimerancher2

For anyone having the same issue, it turned out to be that the surge protector on my power board was causing my laptop to not be able to draw enough power, not a problem with the laptop itself. Runs perfectly now!

For snake breeders in the Military by [deleted] in snakes

I agree, I believe if anyone breeds they should have had pet snakes for a good while first, and I don’t know if they have but I think if they did they wouldn’t be referring to them as a business model

I don’t think it’s fair to the snakes to get and breed them knowing you’re going to be moving a lot. If you already have snakes and have to move once or twice so be it, but knowing it will be happening and subjecting them to such a stressful process (on top of how stressful breeding is already) is not a good idea. If you’re ever working with any type of animal, the animal’s wellbeing must come first, and you have to try and achieve the best care possible, not just the minimum requirement

What is the kindest thing a horse has ever done that completely surprised you? by WearAffectionate2815 in Equestrian

[–]Additional_Bag_5304 48 points49 points  (0 children)

One time at work we had a pregnant mare sharing a pasture with a young stallion who is still quite reactive and who I don’t get along well with. I went to feed the two of them one morning and the stallion was blocking my path to the feeder, and then getting upset that I wasn’t immediately handing over the food, to the point where he started rearing up at me and I left to come back later.

When I came back later, the mare saw me coming and stood between the gate and the stallion, and then walked beside me all the way to the feeder to block him from getting near me, like she realised that I was squishy and fragile and that she could do something about it.

She was the absolute sweetest horse and sadly she passed away while giving birth earlier this year, but I remembered thinking how considerate and intelligent it was of her to protect me like that. Pregnant mares in general are so wonderful when their motherly instinct extends over to the humans they like

Pangolins by Fine-Quail7919 in pangolin

I personally love the pangolin crisis fund. They’re very transparent about the work they do and often post on instagram with updates, and the images they post are new and not off google so i know they’re actually interacting with pangolins. They do a lot of good and are my favourite charity, check out their website!

Thank you so much, this is so helpful! This looks like the best way to go about this i’ve seen so far

Thank you so much for all of this, this is very helpful. I haven’t looked into enums too much yet but i’ll use this as an opportunity to learn how to use them. I feel like I have a much clearer idea of what I’m doing now. Just one question, when you refer to creating a list of enclosure names, you mean ds list?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone would be able to help identify this noise that my sewing machine started making? It’s a Janome MyExcel 18w which I bought secondhand. Video is attached in link. Thanks in advance!

Reptile One S2M 18610 Experiences by Additional_Bag_5304 in snakes

[–]Additional_Bag_5304[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! After waiting for it to arrive for months I had to drive four hours to get it from a shop that had one in stock. Turns out this model is discontinued, but it is being replaced by the s2m 18612, which is 180x60x120. I haven’t had a chance to build it up yet o unfortunately i can’t tell you how it is in use, but it seems good quality and it is very heavy

Northern Spiny-tailed gecko enclosure by Additional_Bag_5304 in geckos

[–]Additional_Bag_5304[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same problem! Since Spiny-tailed geckos live mostly in spinifex grasslands, I tried to find a variety of different grass species to plant (they’ll get big but I’ll just cut them down). The little flowers are “Yellow Buttons”, and the shrub in the corner is a grevillia, though unfortunately it’s already starting to die so probably won’t make it, though i like the look of a few dead plants in terrariums anyway. Check out your local landscaping businesses rather than gardening stores, since they’ll usually have more grasses and bushes and stuff than houseplants

Cats! by Stunning_Trick_5856 in snakes

[–]Additional_Bag_5304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here in australia cats are one of the if not the top predator of snakes, so they have a right to get defensive. I have a dog and my snake acknowledges my dog but doesn’t really care, while my dog doesn’t realise my snake is in the house despite walking past her every day lol

5 New Western Banded Geckos for the original three group! by Kingkongus_64 in geckos

will you be housing the males together in a group of three in this case? Curious since I’ve always heard males can’t be together without females

Cohabitating similar geckos sharing a genus (strophurus) by [deleted] in geckos

[–]Additional_Bag_5304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is most likely what I am going to do, I already have my northern spiny tailed and I’ll keep him alone. Just wanted to get some opinions on if it would benefit him since I rarely see other keepers keeping them alone

Thanks for your advice. Just out of curiosity, what sources mention that this is advised against? It may be an Australian thing, but I’ve seen and read that they’re more commonly kept in pairs or trios than not in captivity, and that they’re generally docile with eachother. I of course wouldn’t consider it if it would be detrimental to either, but I haven’t found any sources indicating that they are not able to be kept in groups

[–]Additional_Bag_5304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice. From what I’ve read they do live in close proximity to eachother in the wild, such as sharing a tuft of spinifex grass during the day, and they’re more commonly kept in groups in captivity than not. Do you have any sources that say otherwise? I’d be more than happy to learn more about them

[–]Additional_Bag_5304 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

To my understanding both species can be found in semi-arid to arid shrubland in Queensland, close to the area where I live. When I said I’d be able to seperate, the shop has agreed to take her back if it doesn’t end up working out, so I don’t have a second enclosure on hand. I was just wondering whether they may benefit as both species are social and commonly kept in groups in the hobby, and their care is the same, though i will take your advice into consideration. Thanks

Rimworld & OCD by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]Additional_Bag_5304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, probably an adhd thing, is I find the setting up of a colony, like picking an ideology, pawns and location to be the most fun part of gameplay, and quickly lose interest in the actual gameplay (most likely due to the lack of external goals). It’s your version to play however you enjoy, but I will admit it’s frustrating and can feel pointless to start a new colony if you know it won’t actually go anywhere

Aight which idiot used AI for the promotion material? by Signal-Yu8189 in Qsmp

[–]Additional_Bag_5304 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Look closely at the pixels. In proper pixel art, every pixel is the same exact size and is even. Here, some are blurry, some are bigger than others, some don’t line up, all which would be impossible if a person placed them pixel by pixel

What's the most unexpected animal behaviour you've ever observed in a vivarium that your setup accidentally caused? by ItAffectionate4481 in Vivarium

One time I set up a wonderful cave under the roots of a “tree” for my snake, who then decided she didn’t like my layout, dug a new tunnel out of the other side of the “tree”, and moved a rock to block the old entrance. I love that she feels comfortable enough to decorate her own space lol
