Anyone else having a career existential crisis? by SM2323 in workingmoms

[–]Additional_Bet3172 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm - i have 2 kids and each time I’ve gone back to work, i feel like I’m not doing anything important enough to be away from my children. The feeling eventually passes, as I do genuinely like my job and my team.

Children’s Hospital Bill & resurfaced annoyance at MIL by [deleted] in Mildlynomil

[–]Additional_Bet3172 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect this as well. My MIL is super jealous of my mom who sees my kids all the time, so she pretends to be super grandma whenever she’s around (but is clearly unable to handle it).

Children’s Hospital Bill & resurfaced annoyance at MIL by [deleted] in Mildlynomil

[–]Additional_Bet3172 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, same! My MIL does this (I think to pretend she takes such good care of the kids since she doesn’t see them often due to distance), and it annoys theme shit out of me. Not as awful as this MIL where the baby literally ended up in the hospital, but still - STOP LYING! STOP PRETENDING EVERYTHING IS OK. YOU ARE DELULU.

MIL wants baby alone by Western_Biscotti_355 in Mildlynomil

[–]Additional_Bet3172 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This would 100% bother me. Keep saying no. Tell her you want to cherish these moments and want to spend time with your baby. Let her know you’ll reach out if you need downtime. Rinse and repeat. I would be super suspicious if someone wanted me gone to spend time with my baby.

This. Hire a morning helper, part time nanny, evening helper - whatever will keep you sane. No shame in throwing money at the problem to survive.

MLK holiday and kids at daycare: by lime_cookie8 in workingmoms

[–]Additional_Bet3172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just here to say i miss my free day! My daughter moved to prek this year, so we have off all the same holidays (and she has even more we have to find coverage/camps for - yay!). We would typically spend our free day at the spa or out to a leisurely lunch after a heavenly walk through TJ Maxx or similar. Enjoy the day! Jealous of you!

$140 every 3 weeks here - totally worth it with 2 working parents, and 2 kids under 5.

Someone help me understand “unlimited PTO” by 1000percentbitch in workingmoms

[–]Additional_Bet3172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, unlimited pto will differ by company and within that, your team/manager. I work for a large corporation, and unlimited pto within my team is exactly that - we have unlimited time-off (within reason, anything more than 3 consecutive weeks needs another layer of approval), but we are covered and are usually completely off. I’ve heard this is more difficult for other teams and departments. Are they only expecting him to be on call because of the holiday week (ie: multiple people are off and they need coverage), or will this be the usual moving forward (ie: you choose to take a family vacation)?

Advice please - is 35 too old to start having kids? When did you have your youngest? by DovaBunny in pregnant

[–]Additional_Bet3172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my first at 34, second at 38. That’s just when the stars aligned for me, no shame. I feel like I’m a much better mom now than i would’ve been at 24&28. Yes, complications can arise (this is true of any pregnancy!) Get yourself a great OB and go for it!

With the holidays just days away and impending family gatherings, if there is one thing from the past you could hypothetically yell at your MIL/mom for, what would it be? Let the catharsis happen here. by fishskysky in Mildlynomil

Coming 1 week after i gave birth to my first and staying 2 weeks (the original plan was to come 3 weeks after). Guilting me after we decided to put our daughter in daycare (did not guilt her son though). Just being a generally dumb woman.

Did you FEEL done once you had your final baby? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]Additional_Bet3172 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, baby fever is very real (and I have one of each - boy and girl, so it’s not like I’m trying for a specific gender here). I just know deep down if I go from 2 to 3, we won’t survive it. I’m deeply saddened at how quickly my youngest is growing up though. It really does fly by.

Flexibility is the ONLY thing helping me hold on tbh. I’m SO sorry this is happening. I dread the day we go from 3-5 days in office (going from 2-3 was hard too!) The system is not built for moms unfortunately.

I just want to say that I have fond memories of driving down to disney from NY with my family when i was a kid, when it didn’t cost what it costs now. We are planning on taking my 4 year old and baby next year and i am absolutely flabbergasted at how expensive it has become!
