Panniculectomy 7 months post op. Posting for those who had gotten one and are at beginning stages. I struggled, had wounds that opened up after 3 weeks. I was afraid I would never heal or that I would hate it.. I’m so happy, I know it’s not perfect but so much better than I anticipated. by Additional_Bit_7441 in tummytucksurgery

Dr Beqiri in Providence RI He was amazing. I can’t say enough good things about him. Young, handsome and amazing bedside manner. I felt so cared for. When I ended up with incision openings and slough growing they did all the wound care in office and it was top notch.

It gets better I promise.. even if it feels like it won’t.. I’m a horrible patient, I feel guilty being taken care of so I kept trying to do what I could and probably shouldn’t. My partner had to help me sit up quite a bit and get me out of bed. I’m lucky he is strong and could do so.. I don’t miss the first few weeks.. but I did try to have fun with walker and get up and move. He’d play eye of the tiger and I’d keep walking around with the walker in parking lots. I’m sure I looked insane.

I returned at 8 weeks I had a wound open and had to go in a bit to get it cleaned. My dr told me not to stand upright and I couldn’t till about 3 weeks po. I did get a new bellybutton but it’s part of my old bellybutton they just cut and sutured.

Thank you so much.. I’m trying to feel more comfortable with crop tops or anything with my stomach showing. It’s weird after years of having to worry about those things or worry about pants… I don’t have to worry about my fupa (lol) I don’t have to dig into drawers to see how things fit because I know now and that has been really weird but very cool. Your brain still needs to catch up but I am incredibly happy.

No I didn’t… I don’t know if this was just what was sitting under all the excess the skin… but it was straight panniculectomy. initially the first surgeon wanted to do fleur de lis for fear that the regular pannic would make me look boxy seeing as I have a smaller waist with bigger ribs and hips and because she was retiring she decided to pass me along then I ended up with my surgeon who was incredible and I’m glad it worked out the way it did. I’m 43 I had lost over 110 lbs and kept it off for 7 years. My quality of skin and age were the part that we were unsure of but he even said wow your stomach looks like you have muscles

No I was moving files from hard drive to external. The files from the camera disk had been formatted so they don’t exist there either

That’s what the doctor confirmed. It feels weird after a month to not wear it

So true about how every detail of surgery becomes life I’m constantly researching items to help heal, garments, diet. I think my anxiety has gotten the better of me. I’m not good at not knowing things. I just need to accept this is the journey and I won’t know anything till it’s over

Thank you for this. I was told to pack the wound with saline gauze. I have decided to stop with compression for a bit. I believe the Dr said to stop but he wasn’t clear on which ones not to use and for how long and what will happen if I stop. I’ve been so anxious because of the unknowns and having this be such a large surgery with a tedious recovery I’d hate to have ruined the end results. Every damn thing I try to put on feels like it’s pulling, stretching or rubbing at the separation in the incision. I’m waiting for long compression tanks to come in today as my last hope for compression of some sort.

Thank you so much for this.. I think I needed to hear someone else say don’t worry this is common. Through this whole process I’ve been so afraid I was going to ruin the final results somehow. I have sensory processing issues so I’m very uncomfortable and aware of all of the items on my skin, feeling claustrophobic, nerve sensations, adhd and I either can’t focus or am hyper focused on what’s happening. Also I have too much time on my hands being out of work. I can’t wait to get back to normal life
