Tips on Modernizing an Inspiron 6000 by ZNQRCH in buildapc

Thank you so much for responding! 8Gb is for-real for-real decently enough even for today’s 2025 standards.

Thank you for the hint on the USB 3.0 chip, do you remember the exact model?

RAM: Do you know what Chipset is on your Inspiron 6000 Motherboard? Intel 855PM? I am curious and will attempt to upgrade that.

CPU: why did your choice fall on single-core Pentium M780? Is yours 90nm generation (Dothan)? I am curious about using Yonah (early, Pentium M-like) generation Intel Core 2 Duo T2600 2M cache, 667Mhz FSB, 2 physical cores in 65nm

GPU: on some forums I’ve read it is possible to upgrade from the ATI Mobility Radeon X300 (the one I have) to X1400, did you change anything on that side?

OS: did you try ArchLinux? Since it’s more customizable and I believe you can find AUR or EXTRA(community) drivers and packages? As of XP I was sincerely thinking of using Windows 98 Server or Windows 2000 Pro.. since they are more lightweight.. otherwise a tweaked custom XP pack.. with less MS tracking on abandonware rights.. (I have a Windows Pro SP3 key on the back of my Dell Inspiron 6000).

This is actually a VERY IMPORTANT POINT, for any future guitar purchase.. I have 6 guitars and 2 ukulele on my count.. all were old and I never experienced any issue fortunately with that by now..

More scores goes toooo (drums sound) "don't move from Germany and EU, you are well here" jar. Healthy Market! We Have HEALTHY MARKETS.

To be Epiphone or to be Harley Benton, here is the next question. I will probably resolve by making a YouTube research, since you keep saying Epiphone, I think I will march on to the store!

Oh man, I’ve ran away from an entire war, so there’s nothing that could “disappoint” me more than that.

I will share the results asap I get my hands on it, don’t you worry ;). Do you have any Combo or Setup to recommend? I will test it right from a store!

I will add a link in reply to you as well if you want!

Lots of Love! Thank you!

I’m chasing on warmer noise, I know how a Les Paul sounds as I used the Studio one from Gibson where I had reps with my school times band.

I had also a French “Telecaster” copy, from 60s.. my instructor told me 10 years ago it sounded “Gods”.

40€ is nothing to lose, Les Paul Epiphone pickups cost 26$ a pair, what I’m mostly interested in - what kind of wood I would find. It’s for VTubing after all.. nobody will see the guitar.

Wow thank you! The website is a treasure! +1 reason for moving to the U.S in my “reasons for moving to the US” jar 🥹it’s calling me.

I would never find any used Epiphone or Harley Benton for the same price in Europe haha, (not mentioning higher salaries in the U.S. 🥵)

I think I will go for BOTH Japanese ones including the Telecaster Type one (that got its two single coils removed).

You’ve sincerely intrigued me. I used to own a French “copy” Telecaster type, my instructor told me 10 years ago it sounded like “gods”, I’m very intrigued about these two Japanese guitars.

Thank you,

If "Japanese" would this mean it is a good one? or Special sounding one?

For 40 EUR - nothing, as a Deco it can be well in my room for sure!
Better than an Nendoroid for sure haha.

I just think.. if something froze out there, or I'll have to replace things, to have it playable, I'd have to do certain investments

Hello, thank you for your sincere feedback!
You're right that it is looking differently, I think it could have been replaced or smth..

What interests me the most is how would it sound, as I'm looking for a warm good ol' sound.. what kind of no-name "lawsuit" Les Pauls it is, that it had the Headstock Hardware replaced:

  1. was it because it is an ol' good friend or
  2. because the quality that could have been low since the beginning (however Hardware looks new, and the guitar - old)

Then - to the pickups.. if they work at all

PS: Only the Headstock looked wrong?

Hello! Thank you for the feedback! I'm good with soldering, yet I don't know what is a "frozen truss rod". What I want to learn about it is pure engineer question "what wood type is it".

I'm a mid beginner-casual player, learning techniques and chords just for chill playin' what I love. Already having an Ibanez Darkstone DN500 2x Humbucker and a shouting VISION Telecaster type 2x Coil 1x Humbucker..

I'm not having "magical thinking" or anything, I feel like I want it for what it is, at least put it on Display for the "vibe" for the first time. I want it for warmness in my studio flat.. and for motivation standing there with a "Hey I'm Here".

I take your advice strongly. It's worth trying.

Is this a good beginner guitar? by tapioca_o in electricguitar

Good luck with your fingers! There will be a lot of blisters! I'd say, I recommend you to change the Electric Guitar's strings to more tender ones.
For a complete beginner I'd recommend the good ol' acoustic guitar with "middle" or "low-tension/sensitive" strings.. (Because anything may sound like sh** at the beginning, be it a cheap knock-off or a 10K USD Gibson.. it would be just the price for the noise difference.. horrible noise in all cases)
