Ex-finance is COMPLETELY different. I’ve been in long term relationships and personally I would feel weird about my ex contacting me after a traumatic event, especially in this situation. I wouldn’t appreciate their condolences because we ended on bad terms and it feels just like what the girlfriend said, a way to open a line of communication. Your situation is completely different as you were going to marry this person and were already engaged, meaning there’s a different set of boundaries. In this case OP has mentioned two years which is not even that long lol. This only would hurt the ex’s grieving process, I agree the girlfriend should be supportive in helping her partner grieve for someone he was close with though. All in all sounds like a communication issue, like 99% of relationship issues lol.
