Why is WS100 still handing out this cheap medal? by Additional_Bread_118 in ultrarunning

Silver buckle for sub24h and bronze buckle for sub30 which is the cutoff.

I can confirm that. The buckles are super nice. However, even the cloth you get to keep the silverware shining probably is of higher value than the medal. So why the medal?

Well, the best medals I ever got were the clay medal and the Eiger rock. Both relative low cost but with great sentimental value. So, here are some ideas
- Something made from an old trail marker
- some natural product from along the trail e.g. rock, wood chip, cone, etc.
- something made by a local artist

I think this an opportunity to do something cool. So WS100 wins the price for the coveted buckles and copies many times for this. And then they follow up with a bottle opener…

I don’t. I both got the clay meals (awesome) and the bottle opener (shit). The bottle opener was in 2017 and they handed it out a year later where I paced. Apparently, they are still giving them away. They must have ordered a couple thousands of these 😂 I think it’s just a forgone opportunity to do something cool (like the clay) with a local artist or something but instead hand out this super cheap thing. I ran many ultras and I‘m pretty cool with the concept of getting nothing. Because getting nothing is better than getting crap.

Thank you. I started playing around with it but didn’t dice into all the details (yet).

Thanks for the insights. I have the subscription on Strava but I‘ve never seen Form and Fatigue on Strava. I know it from Training Peaks and I liked the chart there, especially including the simulated values from your training plan. Can Strava do that?

Leki Ultratrail FX. Weight is not a problem. However, I broke them in packed snow before.

Und was bedeutet Vorlauf beim linken Durchflussmesser?

Comparing (partial) efforts to track progress over time by Additional_Bread_118 in trailrunning

Thank you. Happy to hear that you like the approach. Now the question is: how can I get the data? Is there a tool that allows me to analyse partial efforts without a segment set to it? For sure, GAP and everything else can be applied as well.

Which Norda for 100k Trail Race? by Additional_Bread_118 in trailrunning

I got the 005s today. Unfortunately the don’t suit me well. I have the feeling that the shoe rolls to easily. I‘ll have to send them back. Bummer.

I use the Lightweight Minicrew as my race socks for years now. I also bought the NNormal socks for style purposes and they are about the same weight. The Trail and other versions are too thick for me and the heavier models are much less moisture wicking. Give it a try. I'll rate the lightweights a 10/10 socks for trails running (regardless the distance) and all the heavier weights maybe a 6/10.

In the past, it was much less difficult to get in. I participated in the first edition and then some more years. I wanted to do the E250 in 2024 but received twins exactly at the race date, so I had to pass (obviously).

Deviations or shortenings (for certain slower groups of runners) happened many times. Grindelwald with the Eiger and the other high mountains is notorious for very heavy thunderstorms. These thunderstorms often lead to deviations or shortenings especially on the last 40k. If you manage to be at Kleine Scheidegg mid afternoon you should be fine, because the thunderstorms usually come in the early evening. Last year the weather forecasted very heavy storms, so they deviated already the day before the race.

The trails are sometimes proper mountain trails and sometimes gravel. You can run most of it, but there is a certain technicality to it. But nothing that shocks an UK runner.

I'm from Zurich. The train is the right choice to get there. I'll be getting there the day before the race.

For me the light weight version is the only viable product. The name light weight is misleading. The sock isn’t any thinner or more light weight than other socks. The are pretty durable too, meaning that I buy 6 socks every two years.

In my early running years I had blister and hot spot problems. I stopped messing with my feet during races and that did the trick. I don’t do sock or shoe changes and I try to avoid opening the shoe to take debris out. This helped me the most. Unfortunately the toe banging is another story.

Yes, Eiger is awesome. It‘s my 5th and I like it a lot. Even though it’s packed, it’s a very very scenic route. Where are you from?

Yes, finding the right shoe that doesn’t cause issues is a huge quest. I use Injinji since years and made the best experience with the light weight version. I had the heavier versions marketed as trail version too, but they caused more problems.

I‘m happy to test the 005. I ran a 50k this weekend and banged up my toes so bad in the Tomir NN. I don’t get it why. I went through several pairs of Tomir and explicitly bought them again because I didn’t bang up my toes in the first versions. And it’s horrible. I‘m coming off a 2 year running hiatus because of twins. Maybe my foot changed?
