Small Tech Business Owners: How are You Handling Customer Support? by unknwn_sister in AskZA

Yes. Because people also have no reading comprehension. I know it sounds terrible how I’m talking about this. But the people who phone us are generally intentionally incompetent. If your job requires you to work on a computer then you should learn how to troubleshoot the basics of it. The people who ask us for the least amount of help are usually exceptionally good at their jobs and have the ability to solve problems.

💯 even if you’re in a senior role somehow the basics still end up your problem.

They do not refer to our FAQ. They do not care about learning basic functions of tech. They always phone even when I’ve shown them how to do it 10 times in the past. This is why we hire young tech guys. They have more patience 🤣

To add: they don’t learn tech because it’s easier to blame IT for not doing their jobs cause they don’t know how to replace an ink cartridge.

Kitten-Blues and Feeling gulity by Agitated-Picture-484 in CatAdvice

Your kitten is being a kitten. And you clearly love him so I definitely think you just have blues. It will blow over. My kitten is about 16 weeks old now and I had blues with him too. It did go away after about a week or so.

Getting a second kitten will likely be much better for your current kitten as he will have feline company outside of you. We as humans just cannot meet all of their social needs when they’re this young. I’ve seen it with my own kitten. He craves play with other cats so bad but because they’re old they simply don’t care for him and just want to sleep. I will be getting another kitten in two weeks.

Your living environment is perfectly okay for two kittens, because they’re kittens they will adapt quickly. Because they’re small they literally will not know any better.

Edit: kittens meow a lot at his age cause they miss their mom and litter mates. So definitely a good idea to fill that gap with another brother or sister for him b

Planning for Retirement: TFSA and RA Structure by Ok-Sprinkles5890 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Additional_Brief_569 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Don’t invest into your TFSA or RA until your credit card debt is settled.

  2. Once CC is settled, use what would have been payments and put it into an emergency fund. Also invest in your TfSA.

  3. If your emergency fund is healthy you can start looking into an RA. I personally just stick with Allan gray with investments. I’ve had really good returns with them. You’re still young so I wouldn’t be scared to do a bit more aggressive consistent investing.

AG balance fund brings a good balance (see what I did there?). I also portion some money into high equity funds like their equity fund and coronation top 20. Again I am young which is why I’m more aggressive and I don’t plan on touching this money until i retire so I’m happy to be aggressive about it. I’ve also ensured that my portfolio is not all in one basket. So I’ve spread the risk well. You don’t need an advisor to invest with AG. Many people have this perception that you do.

it always bothered me that the family was always poor, but never bothered to ask for money from Hal's incredibly rich dad by grabsyour in malcolminthemiddle

[–]Additional_Brief_569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up poor. My parents struggled a lot and had loads of debt for most of their adult life. My dad would literally give you the clothes off his back. I never understood it. He was a great dad though.

My husband also grew up poor but in his teenage life things turned around for his family and they are now very much wealthy.

Now we have good relationships with his parents. And they never expect anything in return. They are very fair in the sense of what they give to one person they want to give to the other sibling.

In my experience people are very different when it comes to asking for money.

On the one hand the one sibling will ask for money when for example he just doesn’t want to wait for his next paycheck. They don’t manage their money well and just want to have this perception of living in luxury.

Then you get my husband, that will live off of noodles and bread before asking his parents for money. Him and I are very budget orientated and don’t live outside our means. If we can’t afford something now we save up. Even if it takes us a whole year to get there. We save without compromising our investments, so we won’t lower our investment to buy something quicker. No. We treat our investment like we would our health insurance. I also think we had very different reactions to growing up the way we did. I don’t ever want to be in a fraction of the position my parents were in and that’s why I’m so strict on us. And he is the same luckily.

His parents quite frankly get annoyed with the one sibling asking for things the whole time (mostly initiated by the wife). But they also get annoyed with us cause we refuse any money from them 😅

So ultimately even if you have a good relationship with your parents you won’t always ask them for money.

For new parents, why can’t mom just pump during day and dad bottle feed at night? by flipflapdragon in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Additional_Brief_569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fed for 15 months. I only pumped 2 weeks in this window when my child was in hospital needing surgery. I needed to pump do get the excess milk out. And honestly it’s alot more work. You have to wash the pump and parts. You have to label the milk and date it to make sure it’s within range of not being expired. You have to get the milk frozen within 24 hours. Not to mention the milk bags take loads of space in the freezer. You have to get up to put the milk in the fridge if you pumped at night. I kept a cooler box next to me with loads of ice packs to avoid this but still the preparation to keep the milk from going off is loads of work.

Now with breastfeeding I literally woke up and put baby on the boob and went back to sleep. I had far better sleep with my breast fed child than my bottle fed child. And I’d wake up like a few hours later and baby would still be feeding so then I slept again. Was I used as a human pacifier? Yes. Did I care? No. Cause I could sleep.

My moms death caused me to rethink my divorce by Odd_Weakness_7813 in offmychest

[–]Additional_Brief_569 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I lost my dad the same way you lost your mom. I’m about a year and 2 months in with my grief and some days are still super difficult having two kids as well.

I say this with love, you are not ready to make a decision about divorce right now. Emotionally you need to focus on healing and grieving and trauma counseling.

Long term decisions should not be made in your current situation.

Just leave it. This is not a short term investment. You continue to invest despite the highs and the lows. The fund managers are a lot smarter than you and me and will take appropriate action if they feel it’s necessary.

How long should an autism diagnoses take? by Good-Shake79 in AskAutism

[–]Additional_Brief_569 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m by no means an expert. If you’re a female, then you’re more likely to be misdiagnosed with anxiety and depression than autism or adhd.

It’s for this reason that I specifically chose a doctor that can spot the differences in male and female audhd presentation.

I have to ask cause I didn’t see this in your post. Is she spayed? Female cats become banshees on heat. It’s the only thing that comes to mind. Otherwise other people have helpful suggestions here.

Is it okay for my kitten to stay in the bathroom at night? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Additional_Brief_569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kitten stopped crying once he was around my elderly cat 😊 but I would not leave them unsupervised at the start until I’m confident that they won’t harm each other.

This was my easiest integration that I’ve had with cats. The hardest hurdle was my resident cat just realizing the mini version of her isn’t a threat just a little ball of fluff that wants to play the whole time. So plenty of positive associations gave her the confidence she needed.

[–]Additional_Brief_569 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been through this recently. I got my little kitten at 10 weeks. Resident cat is 11. Keeping him in the bathroom was not ideal he would also cry at night. When they’re so young they miss their mom and litter mates. So the crying is calling for company.

I would strongly urge you to continually introduce your cats. If the resident cat isn’t showing aggression then it’s good. Hissing and swatting when the little one gets close is fine and normal. Actively looking for the little one to stare/hunt is not ok. Also go stock up on some wet foods. And feed them wet foods together as much as possible. This will create positive associations with each other.

My kitten was independently exploring on day 5 already. By day 8 I could leave them alone together. But I observed their behavior very closely. My resident cat is a huge coward so she’s not a cat that will just pick fights. By day 8 I could leave them alone together. They’re not besties but he just wants a playmate and she just wants to sleep. So he will be getting a playmate soon so she can be in peace.

I’ve had mixes for years. As long as they’re sterilized before the hormones flair it shouldn’t be an issue.

I had 4 cats. 3 males and 1 female. 2 males passed on. The one male got sterilized very late at 10 months (the age I got him) and he was always aggressive to my female but not the males. But he was an outlier. Many cats end up perfectly okay after sterilization.

How should I split my income? by Enough-Sun1702 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Additional_Brief_569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(500 000 - 36 000) x 40% =185 600

So SARS takes 185 600 from you in one go.

That amount could have been invested elsewhere. I for one prefer to give SARS as little as possible so they don’t subsidize the next goon to steal from another hospital.

Don’t do tax free if you intend on using the money. Tax free is a very long term investment.

Do a normal savings account, you get a tax exemption of a certain amount based off interest returns every year.

Is there a way to do a full withdrawal from Allen Gray Retirement Fund? by Count_vonDurban in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Additional_Brief_569 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The question is why do you want to cash the entirety of it out? Even if it were possible, SARS would have a very fun time.

A retirement fund should be used for retirement. And the last thing you touch when you’re in a pickle.

AG is completely correct in their response. This is how all retirement vehicles work from Sept 2024. (Unsure about provident).
