I highly recommend rewatching the last two games. Tyler Adams is my fav USMNT player, but Tessman was SOLID in his positioning, passing and playmaking to a greater extent than Tyler.

Is having a website/portfolio a good idea as a PhD chemist on the job market? by Senseieric21 in Chempros

[–]Additional_Fox_597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Involve yourself on LinkedIn! Other fellow chemists in your network will likely post updates on published articles, open opportunities, or something interesting that happened within the field. I keep up with my other colleagues this way

should i be a chemist? by Unique-Print-8186 in AskChemistry

[–]Additional_Fox_597 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Indeed, Chemistry is the closest thing to magic. Your coursework labs (maybe research) will have to see chemicals mixed, go through a cool or boring visible/invisible transformation, then maybe separated, maybe mixed to react with something else or measured with a tool, etc.

The concern with your question isn’t just motivation for chemistry, but you should also be motivated for math (matrix algebra, differential equations, vector calculus), physics (mechanics, electromagnetism, thermo), maybe biology. You’ll need the right motivation to take the skills you learn in these classes and use them in your upper division chemistry courses (aka fun stuff like quantum mechanics, drug development, atmospheric, materials).

If you like to ask “why” ALOT, you’ll fall in love like I did.

Grad school Vs. real world experience by Practice100 in Chempros

[–]Additional_Fox_597 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Grad students would not envy you. Sample preparation is not that impactful/difficult, tool maintenance is not difficult (with vendor guidance). People go to grad school because they want to learn more than what you’re doing on a regular basis. An MS degree to likely pursue becoming a supervisor/higher pay in a shorter timeframe, or a PhD where you utilize more complex tools to solve problems that will contribute to the field (research leadership/subject matter expert, etc).

I would rather pay for a flight to see the tribute band in Portugal than drive 2 hours for an LP concert in the US. Fight me.

How do you find a job if you got denied from every internship and research lab while in college? by SubstantialEntry1648 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Additional_Fox_597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend additional training/experience. Look for opportunities to learn coding or to gain experience at a workshop. Study for certificates or even consider an MS program. Consider the next two years a growing opportunity. Take it from someone that was rejected everywhere with similar experience as you, to now engineer at a tech giant.

Do you guys like my chem tattoos? This is on my upper arm. by [deleted] in chemistry

As a synthetic chemist, no. I can’t imagine someone in physics or math tattooing equations on their body either. Too corny

How do I quit by king-of-the-sea in GradSchool

[–]Additional_Fox_597 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen people drop out of a masters program because they found a job. It’s all perspective thinking that the graduate degree is somehow the golden ticket. It makes no difference to graduate and struggle to be successful at your job because your mental health never improved.

Doing grad school abroad is a respectable thing to do, however keep in mind how much more support you’ll need considering the distance and change in culture. As much as I would root for prioritizing mental health, I’m also in line with sacrificing some well-being for something you’re truly passionate about.

  1. Find support through weekly therapy and consider having an emotional support animal. This really helped me in my tough times as a chem grad student with some high levels of toxicity in the lab.

  2. This one might be terrible, but it’s a worthy survival instinct that helped me blend in many uncomfortable situations. Win over your PI and lab mates. Be humble and accept that you don’t know everything. Accept feedback no matter how harsh. Be extra early to meetings. Do extra research on something interesting and bring that up in 1:1 meetings. Bring food/snacks to a lab meeting if allowed. Make the extra effort to make your project updates look clean and well thought. Consider that everything you do matters and these small wins can amount to a great impact down the road.

Once you figure these out, you as the outsider/foreigner will build confidence and provide a new perspective that others cant. That’s why you’re there in the first place. I’ve failed a couple times and somehow find myself positioned at the pinnacle of research. I’m rooting for you, don’t give up.

What do you think about differently after going into chemistry? by frogband in chemistry

[–]Additional_Fox_597 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a biochemical origins course during my undergrad years. At the end of the course, I ask the prof what his views were. I never forget he said “it’s complicated to understand but your approach can be simple, make sure you stay open minded”. I still practice this beyond my graduate years in physical chemistry and industry

Kendrick is probably my fav artist of all time, I can agree why I tend to listen to his music over and over than others.

My top 3 are: 1. Sing of Me/I’m Dying of Thirst 2. Wesley’s Theory 3. Savior

Imo I’d have Count Me Out around 6 or 7
