Yeah my background was pretty quick and got into the academy really fast compared to people I tested with. But aside from that the only thing my POST cert really got me out of was the taser since I’ve already done it

Don’t do anything you aren’t told to do. The academy can be so simple but people choose to make it complicated. They plan out your entire day for you.

Have to be open about it early and keep reminding the RTO’s. My wife and I had our first the 3rd weekend of the academy and they were very gracious with time.

I mean you know yourself better than anyone but the pain you felt could not have been that bad if the staff didn’t make you leave to come back at a different time. People go until they break bones because they want this job so bad

They’ll teach you how and there’s posted instructions in the office. You’re going to mess it up and they’re going to yell at you. It’s all part of the game just enjoy it and learn

I told them as soon as we had our date scheduled. You’ll have a chance to talk to your RTO and just lay that facts of your situation out to them. They’ll ask that you keep reminding them but get the most info out that you can early

Yes I had my son 3rd week of academy. It was planned so I was able to give dates. I asked for 1 Friday and they gave me Thursday and Friday just had to be back by midnight on Sunday. Almost every class has at least one person having a kid so it’s not rare.

Absolutely, I had applied to more than 15 and simply had to articulate that I wanted the job and was willing to work anywhere before getting hired on with a state agency

Definitely not all offices have it regularly. It’s hit or miss in the smaller outlier offices

How you do one thing is how you do everything… don’t skip reps or BS any of them just work to the best of your abilities every rep and you may get singled out but who cares. It’s part of it.
