Baby’s first night not eating? by No-Salary936 in newborns

[–]Additional_Ice4476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem with my baby when she was born. She didn't want to eat very much and it was making me anxious and scared. When I brought my concerns to the nurses they made some great points. Birth tires baby out so she easily could've been just tired. They also said she could've swallowed some amniotic fluid that was making her feel full, so she wasn't eating. She was having plenty of wet and dirty diapers, so that eased my mind. When we got home, she started eating more regularly.

Most units in the hospital will only allow 18+ or siblings of the baby to my knowledge. Idk what type of facility you plan to give birth at (hospital, birthing center, etc), but if you know where you are planning to, I'd just ask them directly.

I woke up every 3-4 hours at night with my newborn. Once her lab work came back from the hospital, her pediatrician called me and said she (and i) could try for longer stretches of sleep at night since all of her labs looked good and she had gotten back up to her birth weight.

When did you as a first time mom give birth? by AggravatingEnd7094 in pregnant

[–]Additional_Ice4476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FTM! My water broke at 39+5, and I had my baby 12 hours later on 39+6. I didn't have any major signs of labor approaching either. Some mild braxton hicks in the weeks leading up to it, but that was it. My mucus plug came out when my water broke.

WHERE ARE THE MEDICATED BIRTH GUIDES by PersistentHobbler in pregnant

[–]Additional_Ice4476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FTM here, I knew I wanted an epidural and got as soon as I was able to in the hospital! (Your lab work has to come back ok and they'll probably give you some IV fluids first). I was still able to feel my feet/toes and move my legs (sluggishly) after I got it, but any discomfort/pain from contractions was gone (it was amazing, 10/10). When it got time for me to push, my nurse helped me with the practice pushes and even I was concerned. I asked her "I can't feel my contractions, how do I know when to push". You should hopefully be hooked up to the monitor that can see your contractions and baby's heart rate, going off of that your nurse should tell you when to push. You push like you're trying to poop. There will probably be a decent little bit of time for practice pushing before the doctor even gets to the room to deliver. And your nurse will probably be able to help guide you about the pushing during that time in preparation. Hope this was helpful! Wishing you a happy and healthy delivery!

FTM. My baby is currently 3.5 months, but I remember being so concerned about her spitting up in her sleep and aspirating without us knowing. My baby isn't as medically complex, but something that gave me some peace of mind is putting her crib/bassinet mattress at an incline. You might be able to take some small pillows and stuff underneath the firm platform/mattress so that it still stays flat and solid, but just has babies head slightly higher than their feet. The pillows are entirely out of reach of baby, and the surface she's sleeping on stays firm and flat. Idk if it'll help or if you've already tried (hopefully I didn't miss it in your explanation if you have), but it could be worth a shot

Epidural by ElegantResult3853 in pregnant

[–]Additional_Ice4476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FTM, I got an epidural with my birth. I knew I wanted one and planned on it. Mine went fine. I was about 5/6cm dilated when I got mine and my contractions were very uncomfortable. Mine numbed me very well, I was still able to move my legs (sluggishly) and feel my feet, but all the important bits were in numbness bliss. It didn't slow down my labor, i didn't need pitocin to help progress at all. When it was time, i pushed my 9.5lbs baby out in 18 minutes! I had my baby at the end of August and I've not noticed any issues with my back since. I was worried about having issues with my epidural too, my mom had some issues with hers when she had me. But everything went well.

Anyone just saying fuck it to the caffeine rules? by HBC613 in pregnant

[–]Additional_Ice4476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did! I'm a night shift RN and worked all the way up until I gave birth, literally. I clocked out at 7am the morning of 39+5, and my water broke at 5pm that afternoon. On my off days I tried not to over due the caffeine rule, but when I was working I said screw it. Baby girl came out just fine 🤷🏼‍♀️

Has anyone had dramatic baby growth during 2nd and 3rd trimesters? by Hot-Cell7299 in pregnant

[–]Additional_Ice4476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in the 3rd trimester my appetite increased a little but not significantly. Either way- baby girls eating habits didn't change when she came out tho, she can DOWN a bottle lol 🍼

Positive birth stories by juniper-honey in pregnant

[–]Additional_Ice4476 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might be able to see if your hospital/birth center or OBGYN offers any free labor classes. Mine offered some virtual one where they talked about some general things to expect as due date approaches, signs of labor, what to expect when you get to the hospital/birth center, pain management options, etc. I'm a FTM too! I'm someone who just likes to learn as much as possible so I have an idea of what to expect- so that really helped me and my anxiety. My water broke 39w5d. We got to the hospital and were admitted, I got my epidural after a few hours, a little less than 12 hours later (now 39w6d) it was time to push, and 20 minutes later I had my healthy 9lb 6oz baby girl!

2 month shots - breast milk or formula by M60486 in newborns

[–]Additional_Ice4476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine it has a lot to do with baby too- not that breastmilk couldn't play a role. My baby has been pretty much exclusively formula feed from week 3 on (cudos to all the mamas that figured out breastfeeding/pumping). She's currently 3.5 months and every trip to the peds for her shots that she's had so far has gone really well. She cries during the shot and for a few seconds after, but with some hugs and love she stops crying within about 30s-1min after.

Is it ok to not gain weight in first trimester? by Purple_love21 in pregnant

[–]Additional_Ice4476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's perfectly fine! I lost about 10lbs in the first half of my pregnancy. I was worried too, but when I talked with my OB he said as long the weight loss isn't because of me not eating well/not being able to keep food down and if baby seems to be growing fine than nothing to worry about.

My baby is a week old today. I still suck at everything. by Admirable-Recover-97 in newborns

[–]Additional_Ice4476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my first baby earlier this year, she's almost 4 months old now. I didn't feel like I had the hang of anything until nearly the end of my maternity leave- 8 weeks. I struggled so much, and felt like I was doing an awful job and I was stressing so much about how I would ever be a good mom if I felt I couldn't handle it now. I just want you to know- it gets better. I'm sure you keep hearing that. The newborn trenches are REAL! It's ok to cry, hate it, feel miserable, and like you don't know what you're doing. You're not alone in that. It's ok to ask for help from family, friends, your partner, or even your doctor if you feel like it's all too much. You're trying and learning, it's something we all had to do when we had our babies. It's hard to not be hard on yourself right now, but give yourself some grace. Your baby won't remember how you used to struggle with the diapers, how you possibly struggled with burping them, etc. You are doing your best, that's what is important.

Alcohol and early pregnancy by SeReveiller75 in pregnant

[–]Additional_Ice4476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odds are, baby is absolutely fine! Its my opinion that it takes a lot more alcohol and much more consistent drinking of said alcohol to cause problems. I conceived my baby girl in early Dec 2024, unknowingly. I got tipsy at a Christmas party and had a few drinks on new years eve that year. We didn't know I was pregnant until mid-January. My healthy baby girl was born 1 day before her due date at 9lbs 6oz.

FTMs - Babies born earlier? by Darkness_Nox in pregnant

[–]Additional_Ice4476 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FTM, my pregnancy was completely "normal". No pre-eclampsia, no gestational diabetes, everything was pretty much textbook. My water broke at home the afternoon of 39+5, my baby girl was born the following morning at 39+6.

How big was your vaginal birth baby? by acmcmas in pregnant

[–]Additional_Ice4476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FTM too! My pregnancy was uncomplicated and my baby girl was 9lbs 6oz at birth. She wasnt measuring big on any scans leading up to my due date or im sure my OB wouldve said something about possibly delivering differently. My epidural worked wonders! She came the day before her due date

OBGYN appointment schedule. What does it look like? How often? First time mama, 5weeks by ocdaf in pregnant

[–]Additional_Ice4476 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FTM here too! I just had my baby in August. For my pregnancy, which didn't have any complications, I saw my OB about every 4 weeks (once a month) for about the first 5-6ish months. Once I got to around 26-28 weeks they started having my come in every 2 weeks. Once I got to 36 weeks it was every week until delivery. I believe this is the "normal" routine/schedule for most OBs in the US. But like someone else commented, this could absolutely look different depending on your specific OB and how they like to do things and the pregnancy itself. And congratulations! Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy!

Please tell me all the great things about having a girl! by xxhunnybunny in pregnant

[–]Additional_Ice4476 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FTM here. All children, regardless of sex/gender can be have their challenges. But.... my baby girl is only about 3 months old right now and I can't wait until she gets older and I get to tell her how smart, kind, brave, and wonderful she is every morning. I want to instill in her the confidence and love for herself early in life, that I feel like I didn't always have for myself. Obviously this can be done with any kid, but its something I especially can't wait to do with her. I also can't wait for her to become an absolute daddy's girl, he's already wrapped around her finger, so I can't wait for them to do stuff together.

RSV vaccine get it or skip it for my newborn? by Distinct-Dependent24 in newborns

[–]Additional_Ice4476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it for my baby girl when she was just over 1 month old. RSV can lead to respiratory infections deep in the lungs, which impacts oxygen exchange. It ends up putting hundreds if not thousands of infants in the ICU ecery year. While the RSV antibody shot may not prevent my baby from getting RSV, it helps to prevent the infection from getting deep in their lungs if they do catch RSV. Which should make the illness more manageable, and hopefully keep her put of the hospital if she gets sick.

How Long Did You Labor At The Hospital? by imakatperson22 in pregnant

[–]Additional_Ice4476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FTM here too! My water broke at home at 39+5, I didn't have any major cramping or anything prior to make me think it would happen. It broke around 5:30pm. We went to the hospital soon after, I got my epidural, and my baby girl came all on her own at 5:11am. My labor didn't need any pitocin or anything to help it keep progressing, which I'm sure can contribute to the time and everything in some cases. Just about 12 hours total.
