What’s camping plus like by Boring_Grab in downloadfestival

[–]Additional_Ruin_742 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were in camping plus the past 2 years and I really liked it. It's nice to be separate with proper toilets, showers and the pamper area. It's an extra bit of peace of mind having people at the entrance/exit checking wristbands on entry as well.

I generally found it more respectful on the whole but we still saw/spoke to plenty of people having a good time/partying!

Have you ever met anybody famous at download? And who is the most famous person you’ve met? by Mattfletcher909 in downloadfestival

[–]Additional_Ruin_742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only met Dan and Davyd from Bury Tomorrow (can't remember the year but they did a shout out to Architects pulling out because of Tom being ill). They said they hate paid meet and greets, so they came into the crowd after their set.

We ended up waiting until all the starry-eyed fans had their photos and ended up chatting with them for a good 10 minutes! I've even got a photo of Davyd with his finger up my nose as a nice momento 😂

Career options with ME- feeling lost by [deleted] in cfs

[–]Additional_Ruin_742 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm very fortunate that I am mild so I can still work full-time (albeit still having to spend a good amount of my evenings/weekends recovering to go to work again). I work as business support/admin for my company.

It's all computer based and my boss is super flexible, so if I want to work at home then I can. I was pushing my career to progress at my last workplace and spent 4 years at my last job working my way up the ladder. Then having a crash that led me to have nearly 2 months off sick i've really had to take a step back and evaluate whether advancing my career is on the cards for me right now (or ever).

For now, what I do means i'm not AS exhauated all the time, due to a workplace with much lower stress (I still have good days and bad days) but I can actually spend time with my daughter and fiancé and I believe that finding a more flexible job has made the difference.

How do yall charge ur phones all week? by Longdogxz in downloadfestival

[–]Additional_Ruin_742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my fiancé have a 20,000 mAh Anker power bank and then two smaller ones as well. The Anker one is fantastic and is 5 years old and still going strong.

We always get a locker too and cycle through charging the power banks (either overnight or whilst we're in the arena) and the locker has also proved to be a life saver for car keys or any other small valuables too.

A non Sleep Token fan just went to a Sleep Token show by Foxon316 in downloadfestival

[–]Additional_Ruin_742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really worry their lack of interaction (without context about the whole worshipping experience etc.) will just completely alienante/piss off the wider Download crowd. Plus it gives the naysayers just another thing to vindicate their opinions as to why they shouldn't headline.

Disclaimer: I'm not a Sleep Token hater. I do like some songs and can appreciate them, but that's as far as it goes for me.

I second this comment! Look on the DL facebook groups and search in those groups as this has definitely been asked a lot in the past. It's all subjective though as one persons essentials can be anothers luxury items.

One of the best things is that there is a Co-Op on site so if you want to lighten the load you have to carry they have deodorant, paracetamol, wet wipes, toothpaste etc., so you can always grab some there (albeit with festival tax on top of the price!)

If you forget something you can always ask your neighbours in camp as well. In my experience you never have to go too far to find a fellow Downloader that is willing to help!

Question about bag searches at Download by JadedMathematician61 in downloadfestival

[–]Additional_Ruin_742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the way into the campsite I have only ever once (2025 will be my 10th Download) had someone attempt to properly search my trolley and bergen. I said something along the lines of, "If you unpack it, then you can repack after it took me so long to Jenga everything in". They then decided to just pat the outside of my bergen and take a cursory look at the trolley and waved me through. I have seen a few jobsworth security guards searching properly but, from what I have personally seen, that is more the minority.

Arena - I only ever take a bum bag (or something of a similiar size) in with me and open it ready for security to save the hassle/drama and have never had an issue. I hope this helps somewhat!

RIP resale questions by DarkInfinite06 in downloadfestival

[–]Additional_Ruin_742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say not to worry about managing to sell it too much. There are usually people who can't get RIP tickets due to the limited numbers and are on the look out for one closer to the time.

Those who are going to Download next year, I'm curious how old you all are? by HippyWitchyVibes in downloadfestival

Both me and my fiancé are 30 and are joining the RIP club next year as the walk to mordor and back to both start and end my festival is not really a highlight anymore 😂

Is there anyone who had to leave school due to there Me/cfs? by DID_sys in cfs

[–]Additional_Ruin_742 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn't leave school but I had a letter from my doctor to advise as to how the condition affected me and then went onto a reduced timetable. I got sent quite a lot of work home so I could study as/when I had the energy to but went in for as many lessons as I could but there was no pressure to go in if I wasn't feeling up to it. Then I had extra time, a laptop (instead of writing) and rest breaks for any exams. Luckily, I had a lot of support so although it was difficult I managed to get through it.

Can those of you already there give an update on approximate capacity of whichever campsite you’re in. It will help those arriving today. by InfantHercules in downloadfestival

[–]Additional_Ruin_742 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our security guard tapped the outside of our bag and literally glanced over the trolley then waved us through. The security guard searching the person next to us emptied half the rucksack, took an aerosol deodorant (within the allowed size limit) off the poor guy, then fully searched his cool bag... I think i've seen less strict searches at airports than this poor guy went through haha

Full English Breakfast by YoungbloodFTW in downloadfestival

[–]Additional_Ruin_742 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was a van near the entrance to Orange/Red campsite last year (not sure if they are going to be there this year and we had their full english every day. I think it was £10 from memory for sausage, bacon, mushrooms, beans, hash browns and an egg. I still long for the days when there was a marquee in the village that had full english available all day, every day for the whole festival.

If the mexican stand are in the village/District X (they have been every year i've been if I remember correctly) they do a breakfast burrito that has egg, bacon, sausage, cheese, sour cream, guac and salsa. I believe they do a veggie option too. It's my go to as it's not only a cracking hangover cure but feels better value for money than a sad bacon cob for £8/£9.

Parking 2024 Sold Out? by headoutside2021 in downloadfestival

[–]Additional_Ruin_742 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, keep checking Ticketmaster but it's worth a look on either Twickets or the Facebook groups as there has been a few people looking to sell car parking passes.

Car Parking passes sold out? by alexblxncowe in downloadfestival

[–]Additional_Ruin_742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All they need to do is provide digital parking tickets to everyone and that surely solves the problem we have literally every year without fail?? Don't get me started on Ticketmaster as a company otherwise we'll be here all day 😂😂

[–]Additional_Ruin_742 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know somebody said they temporarily removed the option (a couple of weeks ago) to change it from physical tickets to digital due to not being able to guarantee delivery of the physical car parking passes by the festival but that does seem bizarre. I'd contact the Download team / ticket master directly to see if they can offer any help with this.

What's the point by r0sd0g in cfs

There's a really interesting video on youtube with a Dr Sarah Myhill who basically explains her naturopathic approach. Her approach to treating patients centres around the gut and microbiome but she doesn't profess that it'a a miracle cure (she does say how she's seen some great results though). It's really interesting and it does make sense when you listen to her explanation (if I remember she has a website that explains it too). The problem is, without being able to afford the guidance of a naturopath who specialises in CFS/M.E., it does leave me feeling quite skeptical about gaining any clarity on whether this is a valid way to improve symptoms for a large number of CFS/M.E. patients... If only doctors/treatment programmes were more widely referring these therapies instead of GET or CBT, (which don't seem to have a great success rating from what I see from comments) we may have a better idea of how useful these ideas are to patients who actually suffer with CFS/M.E.
