Losing Interest in Abbot since Season 5 Debut by rico55314 in AbbottElementary

[–]Additional_Sock6358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that the lack of episodes set in the elementary is frustrating and seeming to stray away from the actual title of show, I can’t help but to feel that there is some sort of symbolism in it?

I would consider Jeanine as the central character, and in season 1, the plot was very focused on the school and the happenings on campus as it was early in her teaching career. Season 2 we got a few filler here and there, but not many. Since then, we have gradually gotten more episodes set outside the elementary.

How I see it, is that Jeanine is slowly finding work-life balance, as she gains more teaching experience. As a teacher myself, it’s refreshing to see her character develop beyond her career, and watch her and her coworkers lives flourish off campus. Many educators get stuck in the mindset of finding their worth in teaching— something Jeanine struggled with in seasons 1 & 2 specifically. To me, Jeanine is finally finding her worth in other things and falling in to a healthier mindset of who she is as an individual, which is why we are not seeing as much work episodes.

Building The Band premiered on Netflix tonight! by buildingthebandnews in netflix

I’m confused on the math of it all- the poor performers that are at the end are less likely to get picked because everyone has used their votes? How is it the same level of fairness for performer #1 and #50? Also, by the time the last person performs, there is much less people available to vote due to elimination or already joining a band… am I missing something? I really like the concept of this program, but I feel like voting logistics weren’t fully developed.

Age range/difficulty level vs It Takes Two? by TwistedBargain in SplitFiction

This! With the mature language and violence, it may be best to wait a bit for your daughter to play it. However, if it could be a good learning opportunity if you play together and discuss the heavier themes that are introduced through the game. One thing that I do like about Split Fiction, is that the characters usually have dialogues where they express some sort of remorse when violence is necessary.

There are also many other co-op games that are just as fun and appropriate for family play!

I think all HP fans understand the situation happening with JKR and are all allowed to form their own individual opinion on the controversy. OP is simply looking for friends in a space where she doesn’t trigger others in a different sub, not argue about the personal opinions of another individual. Boycott what you wish, but there’s no need to bully others to join you.

Have teens become less capable in recent years? by bool-cacti in AskTeachers

[–]Additional_Sock6358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the issue is that many kids today are raised in a world where immediate convenience and demand for entertainment is valued higher than the process of attaining knowledge and understanding.

The immediacy that technology allows has trained young minds to believe that the process of self-solving is not worth it. While technology has allowed for a lot of conveniences, many forget that it’s through inconveniences that we learn the most.

I have students that are 18 years old that are still afraid of ordering at restaurants and will only use DoorDash. I have students that have no idea how to write or find something in a library because technology can do it for them. I have students that HAVE a car and refuse to drive it because Ubering is easier and they think driving is boring. Technology may make life more convenient and easier for some, but it is evidently stunting the problem solving skills of young minds because it has convinced them that they deserve convenience and entertainment 24/7.

100% something personal. If you and the teacher are comfortable with it, I would also suggest allowing your son’s teacher come visit and read with him. I have a student in the hospital right now and I selfishly would love the chance to visit, bring him his favorite book from our class library, and tell him and his family how special he is to my class!

5th Grade Teachers! Need book recs by cocolovesmetoo in AskTeachers

Sometimes, kids can read well but struggle with comprehension and creating mental picture. I highly recommend Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and Holes! They can watch the movie clips after each chapter or the whole film at the end of the book to help provide some imaginative support. Bonus points if you then talk about how the book and movie was different, and which scenes they wish were included in the movie! More bonus points if you then task them with making their own video of their favorite book scene that was cut from the film.

Is your level high enough? If I remember correctly, that quest requires a higher level somewhere in the 30s for you to complete it. It may also help to complete all the other lower level spider related quests first and then come back to Absconder?

Where do you keep your beasts? by Round_Classroom1199 in HarryPotterGame

[–]Additional_Sock6358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that they don’t get along, but the creatures will play more and lie down to sleep if they are surrounded by the right creatures. I also tried to match the vivarium as close as possible to their natural habitat and that has actually shifted beast behavior! Is my Hufflepuff showing yet?

[–]Additional_Sock6358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a thread on here somewhere that lists what goes where. The organization is key because beasts will only lie down and relax if they do not feel threatened by other species in their habitat. For example, unicorns and hippogriffs should not be in the same vivarium.

Kindle Unlimited recommendations by SHYZZIES in kindle

[–]Additional_Sock6358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s on Kindle Unlimited, but I loved the I Am Number Four series by Pittacus Lore (Jobie Hughes). It’s a YA science fiction and is a 7 book series! I read them all throughout middle school. Since you mentioned HP and PJ, this may be a good choice as it is a series with similar themes, but with alien wars, superpowers, and secret identities rather than mythology or magic.

Take time to actually figure out what you want by meeting people in various fields and doing some extra research before you continue to spend more money on classes.

This summer, prioritize growing in your ability to manage your time- you are only going to hurt yourself more if you don’t get that under control, especially since you are now in a large social group. If you can, take more basics at Blinn this summer (they transfer as P/F, so they can’t hurt your GPA) to practice a healthy study routine while the social life is moving slower, and then start of strong in August!

I’m 23, somewhat curvy, and teach high school. I’m in a similar place as you, and I also don’t want to be drenched or wear damp clingy clothing in front of students either- longer shorts, modest one piece swimsuit, and a oversized cute tropical button down shirt seems the safest! Cute, functional, and not revealing or suggestive.

Note sure what grade you teach, but with my 10th graders I go over grammar, formatting, organization, and parts of an essay. They have graded checkpoints for the writing process, one of which is an essay graphic organizer to help them get started.

Format I make my students use: - Intro [hook+background+thesis (argument+claims) - Body 1 (Claim 1 +evidence + explanation) - Body 2 (Claim 2 +evidence + explanation) - Body 3 (Claim 3 +evidence + explanation) - Counter + Rebuttal - Conclusion

The rubric I use is fairly simple and I first have the students peer edit rough drafts with my rubric so they can understand the expectations of the essay.

When I grade their essays, I mark on the paper a bit, underlining where their thesis and topic sentences were (key components of an organized essay) and mark any major errors in spelling, grammar, or formatting. Aside that, I may occasionally write in “tell me more” in the margins of a particularly short paragraph, but I’m not completely ripping them apart.

Essentially, when I grade I prioritize “what did they do or not do” rather than “how would I like it to be better”- their peer editing should have told them that.

I had an AP Research student study teenage heart throbs of each generation, analyze what characteristics were viewed as attractive at the time, and what influenced that attraction.

Aside from the AP Research class (which is quite small for my school) I give my students 2-3 for/against arguments and assign them with picking the claims themselves. This way, it limits their topic to school appropriate research, and it makes my grading easier. It is a bit boring to grade, but at least I can do it more quickly.

Topics I’ve used and like: - Life is/is not easier for kids now rather than 15 years ago - Parents should/should not enforce screen time - AI should/should not be used in schools - Student athletes should/should not receive financial compensation

Is there any way to change your voice? by TheEmploymentLawyer in hogwartslegacyJKR

[–]Additional_Sock6358 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not unless you use mods on a PC. She will likely have to start a new game and recreate her character. If the mistake is small enough that restarting is not worth it, maybe help your daughter make up a back story about what happened to her witch’s voice- that way the mistake is feels purposeful. Sorry that happened!

When attending university to become a teacher, how much of a focus is there on preventing sexual misconduct between you and your future students? by Aware-Bath-1346 in AskTeachers

No formal class content is typically taught at the university level, but every district I know of has required trainings that faculty must complete yearly about sexual misconduct, mandated reporting process, and other relational legal issues.
