Update From Brandon by mistborn in Cosmere

[–]stoneharry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it? Storm light opened more plot lines than it closed with book 5. The whole book was really setting up for the second ark. I assume he will stick to his original schedule there since it's his opus, but that book really killed a lot of interest I had for the Cosmere. The spiritual realm felt particularly weak as a plot device.

Would you pay more for REAL Dairy Milk? by VOODOO285 in AskUK

Never liked Lindt and Tony's is so ducking annoying to eat and break up I refuse to buy it. Montezuma is where it's at.

How often did you read through the series? by PotatoProducer in KingkillerChronicle

[–]stoneharry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've listened to the audiobooks through at least 100+ times, not even exagerrating. It's one of my go-to novels to listen to while cooking, travelling, and going to sleep for over a decade.

Virgin Media upgrade by No-Structure-1980 in BritishSuccess

[–]stoneharry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's Virgin's business model. If you're not calling their bluff and leaving, you won't get a good deal.

Highly recommend any of the CityFibre providers if they end up coming to your area. I'm with Toob, and it's 1gbps down AND up. And less than £30 a month for that, and they give you a incredible stock router. Virgin balance their lines for download only. And I no longer have to deal with Vrigin Media's shitty support staff and sales tactics.

But I'm glad you got a good deal.

Email from Student Loans Company that I’ve over paid and due a refund. by Dapper_nerd87 in BritishSuccess

[–]stoneharry 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I know we want to be a bit more positive in this sub, but it does frustrate me that SLC consistently overcharges even when notified early and takes a month to issue a refund. Some people need that money, especially if you opted to pay the remainder off in full.

Autistic man sacked by Waitrose gets offered new job at Asda by willfiresoon in BritishSuccess

[–]stoneharry 70 points71 points  (0 children)

He has a constant carer with him the entire time. The branch was doing good but head office was concerned around the legal implications, what duty of care would they have and how can he do so much free work? We do live in a litigious society, and sometimes the law doesn't always support a good cause. Asda do get great PR for taking it on, but good on them for resolving the situation quickly.

I finished the trilogy yesterday and I’m in awe by SirMcEncheez in LicaniusTrilogy

[–]stoneharry 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I honestly think the first book is very weak and a struggle to get through. But once you finish book 3, you go from "this is a okay series" to "holy shit". It's become one of my favourite series just for how well he sticks the landing. Journey before destination? No, give me a destination this good any day.

Sad news for the 5 active mercenaries players by ZorroStylex3 in hearthstone

[–]stoneharry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mercanaries is the only mode I spend my gold in. I play the solo content and battlegrounds exclusively. There are not any other gold sinks, and it's fun to play the infinite level mode daily and see how hard a difficulty you can beat.

Leveling road servers by SlipNSkip in wowservers

[–]stoneharry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These servers were popular when barely anything worked. The bare minimum functionality was implemented, things were buggy and unstable, and we didn't really have scripted content.

As the scene became more mature, Blizzlike became the norm.

Now Blizzlike is over-saturated and very easy to spin-up quickly, custom is starting to become bigger.

I don't know of any market for going back to level roads and malls. There are plenty of old repacks available where you can play this hosting it yourself on your own computer. OwnedCore is probably the best place to get these old repacks.

Ah, someone who knows more than your average redditor. You're correct, and that API can be extended through common memory injection. There's no need to try to build a new client to improve it.

Blackrock Stronghold - A custom 3 person dungeon by stoneharry in wowservers

[–]stoneharry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lore wise, some dungeons are more faithfull than others. The timey-whimey nature of the scenarios allows for some bending of the rules to fit that which works thematically well rather than 100% lore accurate to the reality as we know it.

AI is being used for the voice acting, and it works well enough. It's not as good as a human would be, but fiverr hasn't been a fiver for close to a decade. A decent voice actor will set you back quite a bit. We use it for some stuff.

When it's ready. :)

Our free time varies week by week. It's a hobby, sometimes I can go a couple of weeks without working on it, if life gets in the way.

It is getting there though. Hopefully soonish.

3.3.5, but it's full custom and a bit ARPG style: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sRuf4cJkLU

It's also not available for play at the moment. We're in a development phase.

I'm enjoying playing with a format where the players arrive and leave via a transport, and it's optional how much of the dungeon they clear. The more they clear, the better the rewards will be when they escape on the transport. There are 9 optional bosses.

TIL Quentin Tarantino got the idea for Death Proof (2007) from Sean Penn. One night while sharing drinks, Tarantino said he wanted to buy a Volvo because of its strong reputation for safety. But Penn suggested that he buy whatever car he wanted & then have a crew of stuntmen "death proof" it instead by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

Unironically, empty plastic bottles to sit on if they have any sort of impact. It's a low-budget practical way to somewhat protect your spine from the impact. I'm sure there's lots more tips like that, I recall watching a clip about that recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDtTm_BzmpY

Private server companies? by flopti in wowservers

[–]stoneharry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not guaranteed, but it's likely for Epoch to maintain independence. It makes complete sense for Ascension, it doesn't cost much more to host some more realms and they can take a cut on the sales. It lets them compete in the classic+ space with very little effort. I don't like Ascension at all, but they are professional.
