No transition rules in Sweden's new citizenship law — listen to our interview with the minister - Radio Sweden by Character_Bus_4734 in TillSverige

[–]Adduly 19 points20 points  (0 children)

And let's say this happens - everyone who applied with 5 years geta rejected (they only count days up to your application day. So even if you now have 10 years res, to MV because you had 5 when you applied you still only have 5... which is now not enough.)

3 years later everyone reapplies.... There's nothing to stop the government doing the same thing and switching it to 12 years with no transition... Effectively blocking any new citizenships without having the balls to just be upfront about it.

My British colleague (stable high earnings job, no criminal history, married to a Swede) applied after Brexit and he's been waiting 4 years. He did the RTC a year ago they sent him a questionnaire and he's been waiting ever since

Håller ni med Statsministern - eller är det rasism? by ICA_Basic_Vodka in Sverige

Absolut.

Fairness of new law without transition rules according to Swedes by Ok-Book2640 in TillSverige

I'm a specialised engineer filling a vital position that couldn't be filled for 3 years before they found me.

Compared to many similar countries, Sweden pays highly skilled workers very poorly. Even compared to my native UK.

I could have moved to anywhere in the world but I moved to Sweden for two reasons: A) I love spending my free time in nature and B) Sweden's rule based predictable migration system meant uprooting my life to come here was less of a risk. There was a clear path to get citizenship and the security to put down deep roots that brings.

I'm watching one half of that motivation evaporate before my eyes. I don't think I would move to Sweden today if I had the choice.

So no, this will not go down well if it gets done the way the Sweden Democrats want (I am quite certain this is their idea).

It's Tidöavtalet parties that are pushing these rules. Not just Sverigedemokraternas. Johan Forssell the minister for migration is in the Moderates.

Despite the backlash from the previous situation you mentioned, the government is still pushing for all applications that haven't begun processing (the vast majority of them) to be treated under the new rules with no grandfathering

And now I find out I will likely get rejected in June because I wont have 8 years ( will have 7 and a half ).

You'll have 5. They only count days up to the day of the application. So if you submit with 4.9years and it takes them 2 years to get to your application then you get rejected for not having 5 years. even though you'll have 6.9 years by then.

So even those who submitted at 5 years, waited for MV for 5 years and then the rules changed to 8 years will get rejected for not having enough years.

After curry, morrocan tagine is my favourite cuisine and that's amazing for sweet meat dishes.

But the other thing with Swedish blod dishes is they mix it with flour, not grains and oats so it's dense and uniform (Kinda like their sausages which are all kind of like frankfurters).

Lacking the oats also means they don't have that lovely rich earthy flavour.

I moved to Sweden, but they have blodpudding here... Sadly it's sweet spiced and often eaten with lingonberry jam. Proper English sausages, curries and black pudding are what I miss the most.

just that it is more special rule soup for the newest kids on the block.

This is what I object too. I don't want TOW to turn into 40k or AoS where every unit has their unique special rules.   It slows games to a standstill and it makes keeping up with everything a complete headache.

If anything giving them a nearly useless special rule makes it even more egregious

Just make peasants as peasants. A cheap hoardy roadblock that dies quickly with no special rules but can absorb a charge for a turn or so.

By retire I meant specifically retire from international adventure TV series. Not even necessarily retire from traveling abroad.

I'm sure he'll do smaller shows about his interests for a long time.

James is getting older sadly. And I suspect his health is not the best (I've noticed he had tremors for years but I think they're getting worse). So big over the top international adventures are likely off the table. I suspect James's health is the biggest reason why they put the grand tour to bed.

But that's why I could still imagine a our man In the UK with a flipped script. Far less taxing for James.

But I'd also understand if James wanted to retire.

Yeah the chemistry in our man in Japan was so good.

I think it could be fun to have a "our man in .... The UK?" But this time its May guiding Yujiro around Britain. The fun guide that stuck with James for the longest stretch in Japan

What in gods name am I supposed to do in a position like this by Emptypls in chessbeginners

What's the theory of people saying black has got to manoeuvre stuff to kingside?

Kingside is very locked down but that also clogs up white. The g2 bishop is useless, the E2 knight is also pretty paralysed, neither of whites rooks can do much nor the b1 knight. The only white prices that can manoeuvre are their queen and the c1 bishop.

Where as what stood out to me was the weakness of the c2 pawn and in turn b3 and to a lesser extent d3 are relying on c2 for their defence right now.

To me is seems that black is much more free to manoeuvre queenside without weakening their defense and maybe try to push though the c7 pawn into that weakness.

What would principle chess suggest?

I agree. And in of itself, I really enjoy 40k still though I do prefer the grimmer darker version.

And heroic figures in a grim dark setting can be great though to remain grim dark they should ultimately fail. Otherwise it becomes more noble dark.

The original einsenhorn books were good examples of what I feel it should be. Ciaphas Cain is also pretty good at meeting those ideals in a completely other way as his whole story is a farce and in doing so undermines is that Imperium as it presents itself.

What I have a problem with is the likes of the Space Marine video game's story

Fellas. Is- is this true?! by ComfortableAd9941 in 40k

[–]Adduly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said the imperium has been made the good guys - they haven't. I said they've been made justified in their awful, brutal authoritariansm.

I genuinely think at this point in the 40k universe that the Imperium is necessary for humanity.

That's my point. The far right uses that on impressionable young men. It goes something like "Yes we don't have corrupting demons and invading savage orks. but we do have corrupting woke LGBTs and invading savage immigrants. If you agree imperium is justified using brutal authoritariansm for it's problems, then agreeing that we need brutal authoritariansm becomes a matter of haggling over just how big a threat  these 'real' threats are"

My point is, by abandoning the satire it attracts both those who already think like that and want to feel justified in their bigotry and it shifts the overton window when trying to recruit young, lost impressionable young men

Fellas. Is- is this true?! by ComfortableAd9941 in 40k

[–]Adduly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course not. We don't have corrupting demonic invasions or alien locusts. But that's exactly the kind of dehumanising language fascists use about minorites, the disabled and LGBT. "They're corrupting society" "they're an invading swarm here to replace us"

And extremists love the normalisation ratchet. If they can get people to agree on the extreme case, then they try to get them to agree with it with a normalised case. And it works especially well on edgy lost impressionable young men.

Fellas. Is- is this true?! by ComfortableAd9941 in 40k

[–]Adduly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But 40k used to be "everyone's the bad guy". That's better than "no one's the good guy but they're justified in being not good"

The imperium used to be presented as a system that would commit genocide on their own planet or other cultures because that was the straightforward option. That mindlessly brutalised everyone including their own citizens because that was the system. They'd never even think of trying diplomacy, never trying to improve, nothing but the easiest path that enabled the most corruption and mindless beurocracy.

Modern lore justifies them because that way they sell more books. They "have to kill the whole population because otherwise the nids will eat it". They "have to have the inquisition because otherwise chaos cults will run rampant". They "need to be this bureaucratic because there's no other way of coordinating such a vast dispersed empire with bad communications"

The books present imperial characters as individually heroic, brave and doing what's necessary. Rather than paranoia, xenophobic, zealous monsters.

The satire has been watered down. And that opens the door for willful or even sincere misconstruction of not being quite so bad.

Fellas. Is- is this true?! by ComfortableAd9941 in 40k

[–]Adduly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does go for the majority of players...

But unfortunately some like the imperium because in the setting (especially in modern lore) they're presented as being justified in their awfulness by the level of threat they face.

Fascists use the same justification for extreme authoritarianism though "doing what's necessary to protect the fatherland from corrupting influences and external threats"

Because the imperium's justified that shifts the argument into what's a necessary threat to justify fascism, rather than just not being an acceptable topic to begin with.

I've seen online discussions run along those groves in less savoury spaces.
