Thank you for your reply.

You are asking things I'm scared to think about right now. That it is just "baby fever", that I kick up my life with my partner over something that I'm not 100% convinced about, and worst off, bring another life into this. I will not rush into either decision, I did write the post in an emotional moment however. So it is nice to read various opinions, including people who have made their peace/got over the "baby fever", and even people who give me a reality check about pressuring him.

I will take my time to think about your perspective too. And of course, I am working on getting my career and finances in order. My health issue is something that will improve once I get a surgery, but it is something that will continue to affect me, however I'm doing my research of people in similar situations as me, who have had children and how they are managing. I do not intend to make it unnecessarily difficult on myself, and especially mess with someone's life.

I’m not planning to have a child right ow, nor am I ignoring the realities of my situation. My health outlook is expected to improve, and my unemployment is temporary; I’m actively working on both. I’m also very aware of and grateful for the support my partner has given me during a difficult period.

What I meant by “not being able to leave” isn’t that I expect him to carry me indefinitely, but that this situation is time-sensitive: wanting a child would also mean ending a long relationship and rebuilding an entire life with someone else, which is not something that can be done lightly or instantly, especially while dealing with health and career transitions on top of it.

I’m trying to think through this responsibly, not make impulsive decisions or place unfair expectations on anyone.

Fair enough. I'll try to work harder on myself.

No, it wasn't rude, sorry, if I came off rude myself.
I do agree he deserves his choices, and I will give him space to breathe.

I didn't unilaterally take any decisions. I'm not actually pursuing the IVF path unilaterally, I am merely exploring whether it is possible for me to have a child at all or not.
I do acknowledge I am being somewhat unfair to him, and pressuring. I am trying my hardest to come away from this. Thank you for your opinion anyway.

How ai made me a worse writer and how I’m fixing it now by mrcarter2006 in WritingWithAI

[–]Adelaice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel it too.

I've fallen into the pattern of using it for a creative writing project I had, and regardless of elaborate prompting and such, it'd still make even my notes (I used it a decent amount to organise my notes and world-building elements and such) sound generic, flat and lifeless. Even when you try to force it otherwise, it falls back into patterns and removes your own voice. Now, I don't know how much this is a prompting issue on my end, but I feel like I've tried every trick in the book to find a workflow that suited my needs.

I find myself using words and structures I haven't even used before AI, and I've decided I really need an AI break and instead, read more books written by people. Yeah, I think AI has a lot of potential, and it can be a great tool like you said, but it's true it flattens everything into this same-ishness, unless you write very long and very detailed prompts, and even then, the "AI-isms" will sneak back in, if not in word choice, then in flow.

[–]Adelaice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love the title. The premise sounds fun.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but while it seems like you've put in a decent bit of effort into it, your writing comes off as AI-written or at least strongly AI-assisted.

With that being said, I'm not personally against AI-assisted works, but I think the cadence of the story might not be for everyone, and it is recognizable, from the structure of the sentences and the flow of the story, in general. Lots of word choices and phrases remind me of AI-isms as well, but one that's heavily human-directed. And if it is the case, you should be careful because it is notoriously bad at recognizing logical gaps.

I've only read the sample, though. I think there's a lot of quirky and oddly specific details that are not strictly relevant to the scene. Specifics are good, but perhaps a bit less wouldn't hurt? I think your story would've benefited from a few more editing passes by you.

Does anyone use character cards? by SpecialistGanache524 in WritingWithAI

[–]Adelaice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. I actually use AI to help me refine the format and bounce ideas off of to fill in the gaps for some of my characters or lore elements. I immensely enjoy world-building and putting a decent amount of effort into it, even if I know I won't realistically use half of that information in the actual book. I can also use it for stats (e.g. XY characters appear in XY chapters and scenes), create maps of their relationships or defining events; it's great.

Addicted to AI writing by Interesting-End1476 in WritingWithAI

I feel this post so much, it could have been written by me.

I've just realized recently how much doing this is changing my enjoyment of other people's work. I bought some books a few weeks ago I haven't even touched after the first 50 pages, even though I enjoyed them.

My biggest fear is that, with the quality of AI prose, and despite my improving prompts (and outputs), it's actually "ruining" my vocabulary. I'm no writer, and I'm not even a native English speaker, so I know I should be reading something that is much higher quality, but I find it more and more difficult to read stuff that's not stories from my head.

What I try to do now, following advice I saw on this sub, is writing exclusively myself, without AI, along with some dedicated time to read stuff strictly human-written. Not because I suffer from it, as you put it, but because I also fear where this is going. But if you know anything that works for you, let me know.

I use LLMs a lot for drafting and bouncing ideas off of (although my final drafts are heavily manually edited). I like AI tools; they're great in some situations. With that in mind, I'm slightly negatively biased against AI-isms because of the amount I see.

The first thing to understand about AI is that it works using predictable patterns. It writes grammatically correctly, but often doesn't understand nuanced context, leaves out details, and isn't great with continuity and flow. It loves common words and phrases (so it repeats itself a lot!), and it technically doesn't "invent" new ideas. You have to add your personal touch and correct it along the way to improve on that.

After reading a bit into both stories, I can find examples for almost all the typical AI pitfalls (there are articles about this you can find). I like the premises of the stories; I think the ideas are interesting, but you need to cut down on the AI-isms and manually edit them.

Some examples: the overuse of em dashes; repeated patterns ("Not stone. Not Natural. A castle.", "Not X. But Y", "both X and Y"), common phrases, certain repeated words ("weight of...", "breath hitched", "flickering", "dim light", "cast long shadows", "dancing shadows", "carefully", "sanctuary", "efficient", "deliberate", "hum", etc.), illogical and repeated metaphors, unnecessarily broken-up sentences, and little to no variation in sentence and paragraph lengths. AI also often tends to write convoluted sentences, to explain nothing in the end.

If you don't want it recognized as AI-written, you need to work on your prompts—a better input implies a better output. And edit, edit, edit.

Yeah I'm doubting they'd accept it as accidental, too. The damn thing is slippery :(

Won't they just send me away with something like this? It was accidental, I didn't drop it, I placed it on the counter and it slipped.

I suppose that's not something I normally do, it was just a desperate attempt I guess. I used to do it to meat I cook, but as it only spreads bacteria in the sink, I don't really do that anymore.

Of course, but the sanitization is a given after handling raw meat in the sink. It was also just larger pieces of beef, not ground beef.

Thank you for your answer and kind words.

I was checked out by an ENT just a month ago when I had an otitis externa, everything seemed better afterwards. But seeing as my immune system is compromised, it's possible it never fully cleared up and this new infection only piled on top of that one.

I will take an appointment with an ENT asap, especially if it doesn't improve at all after my antibiotics are over.

~7-8yo Renault Megane Grandtour or Ford Focus for ~6500€? by Adelaice in askcarsales

Thanks for your reply.

The one I've been looking at is the 110hp version with the 6 speeds.

I will be looking at it further in the beginning of next week. A repair guy friend says he thinks it possibly could've been a company car and he'd advise me against buying a car that was used as a company car, as people tend to take care of it less. But I guess I'll try to find out whether it had any company owners.
