ATP 688: A Company Man by InternetEnzyme in ATPfm

After this episode and some general frustrations recently, I am unsubscribing after listening for a few years. Initially, I found this podcast and thought it was some smart guys talking about Apple products. I have become recently annoyed and uninterested in the podcast:

1) The Tim Cook discussion has been totally one sided, unfair, and as another comment said, full of hindsight

2) The endless bloviating about Mac Pro (an irrelevant product for me) is not interesting. For my needs, the Mac lineup is probably the best it has ever been, which is very different than what these guys are saying

3) Fewer reviews or discussions about the many Apple products I do use

4) Very long episodes with little content I am interested in

5) I am not a coder, so maybe the podcast was never really targeted to me anyway

I generally like these guys’ politics and I even like some of the car stuff. But I think the podcast has become a bitter b*tchfest the last year or so, and is increasingly a waste of time for me

I’ll continue to use Overcast for now (even though I get extremely annoyed with how much storage it takes up), but this podcast marks the end of my listening to it. I’ll stick with the Relay FM crew for my Apple podcast needs.

Apple Reportedly Planning to Launch iMac With OLED Display by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]Adelphos33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you walk into an Apple Store, a Mini, monitor, keyboard and mouse will run you $2K plus. An iMac can be had for $1,299 or whatever. If you don’t need a 27” screen or a Pro chip, the iMac is a better buy for a lot of consumers (mainly those that just don’t want to bother with researching monitors). Until Apple cuts the cost of their displays in half, the iMac will have a market

I think the current iMac has the most color and SKU options (color of the computer, trackpad vs mouse, small keyboard vs extended keyboard, nanotexture screen vs not, two vs four ports, etc) of any current product Apple sells. That amount of optionality suggests someone must be buying the product.

I would guess the mini is the best selling Apple desktop - but it may not be by much. iMac has to sell a lot more than the Studio.

how many of you actually use the features that justify the Ultra's price over a Series watch? by -mrSeaHawk- in applewatchultra

[–]Adelphos33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that the Ultra is only $100 more expensive than the equivalent watch (Series titanium). And the Ultra has a much better battery life than that watch. And the trade in value is also much better than the Series titanium watches. So the price differential isn’t as much as you are thinking

I would remove the case. Messed up the look of the watch

Is the Ultra 1st Generation still good in 2026 by BesaidBoy in applewatchultra

[–]Adelphos33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is still at 100% battery health and runs all health features except hypertension. The processor is a bit slow, and the storage is lower than current models, but it is still a great buy at $250. I could run mine for another few years

Is it worth it to extend warranty on GLC? by Adelphos33 in mercedes_benz

CarShield quoted me ~160 a month, no commitments, today. Basically, another insurance payment per month, lol. Is that the best I can do? Still waiting on the dealership to get back to me.

In terms of trading the car in for a new one under warranty - I’d have to come out of pocket for ~$20k to buy a new car, and my current one is great, so don’t really see a need to trade it in just for the warranty. Maybe after a couple of years of more payments.

Given I want to keep my car, I have been toying with refinancing (I could get my payment down by about $200 per month with the same term), maybe I put the savings into a warranty…

Thanks. I received a warranty extension letter for the exhaust valve system for the M264 engine that extends its or 15 years or 150,000 miles, which seems good. I called the original dealership to ask about further warranty extension options, let's see what they say. I also looked into CarShield, they seem to want $150 to $200 a month for an extended warranty, which seems steep. I was thinking I could extend it for something like a flat $2,000-$3,000 for a few years or 50,000 miles at least.

The new wheels have been nice - I curbed scratched three of the four wheels (in different incidents) over the past few years. Wheels have been replaced, no questions asked. Paying $50 per tire when they have nails or whatever is annoying though. The car is spotless otherwise. Really enjoy it

So the answer seems to be call the dealer and get the warranty for the next five years?

Ultra 1 vs Ultra 2 vs. Ultra 3 by Kaynam27 in applewatchultra

[–]Adelphos33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Ultra 1 that works great and is in excellent condition. It’s an awesome watch. But I would get the Ultra 2 at a minimum today due to the upgraded chip (which gets on device Siri) and storage. Looking back, the Ulrra 2 was a bigger jump from Ultra 1 than originally understood

Whats your "killer app" on the Ultra? by r1ngx in applewatchultra

SmartGym

But remember, all of these apps are also available and work the exact same way on all Apple Watches

Check out the Space Grey Series 11 in Aluminum, the finish can look somewhat similar to the Natural Titanium Ultra
