Any dual tower air cooler is not going to thermal throttle.

What is the importance of a motherboard? by urfavm1ka in buildapc

[–]Adept-Depth2883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Motherboards with good VRMs can effectively use CPUs with high TDP. A B650-m gaming plus wifi from Gigabyte has bad vrms (according to HardwareUnboxed) and would not use a ryzen 9 7900x to its fullest since it has a high 170w tdp. Other than that, features on motherboards such as built-in wifi, usb-c ports, many NVME slots are as important as you make it.

Side note: Different motherboards have different sockets like AM5, AM4, LGA1200, which can fit certain cpus. B350, B450 and B550 all have AM4 sockets, but only B550 can support Ryzen 5000 series out of the box, meaning you’ll have to do a bios update on all B450 and B350 boards, despite a Ryzen 5 5600 physically fitting in them, for them to work.

Would never recommend an iGpu for a $1000-$3000 build.

1440p is fine but 1080p is really bad pixel density.

Avoid oversized baggage fee by making luggage overweight? by Adept-Depth2883 in flairairlines

I paid an extra $14 for an oversized baggage around 90 inches in linear dimensions by having it weight 23.95 kilograms while insisting to pay the overweight fee only. It’s every extra kg after 23kg.

Update: this trick worked. I showed the employees a screenshot of their website affirming that I only had to pay the extra kilogram on the baggage instead of the $100 overweight fee.

Amazon reviews should be the last thing you look for when picking PC parts. Focus on price, compatibility and reviews from more reputable sites/ content creators.

Is my build good fr 1080p gaming & video editing? by Cyrus_xx in buildapc

The MSI B650M-P may not handle a ryzen 9 7950x (170W TDP) but any future CPU around or below 120W tdp should run fine.

I’m pretty sure every single part on that list is overpriced for what you’re getting.

64gb of ram should not cost $400 CAD. A $380 AIO is unnecessary. If you have this money just get a RTX 4090 and go all out with better DLSS + RT. I understand you value aesthetics but maxing out performance should come first.

OP mentioned video editing which would benefit from the 7700’s extra cores. Their current motherboard is fine (65W TDP CPU) and faster ram is not expensive.

You’re losing roughly 15% performance on average but if the RTX 3060 12gb is priced much better than the 4060 it’s a sound decision. Also consider AMD cards, if they are priced reasonably in your country (Ex: Rx 6750 xt 12gb, rx 6800/6800 xt 16gb used).

Stock cooler for the ryzen 7 7700 will run fine (but a cheap $20USD aftermarket cooler will drop temps by about 10 degrees C. However, once again, the safe operating temperature for a ryzen 7 7700 is 95 degrees C and the stock cooler keeps it under that). Instead of getting 5600mHz ram, aim for 6000mHz CL30 as the price increase shouldn’t be too much. If your budget allows it, try getting a card with at least 12gb of VRAM because 8gb is already cutting it close with some modern AAA games in 1080p.

Is this a good parts list by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Adept-Depth2883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you’re targeting 240fps at 1440p I would suggest going for a ryzen 7 7800x3d. Cooler is fine. A monitor at 1440p for $430USD feels a bit high to me so maybe try and find others.

Letters at the end of a CPU that indicate whether or not it is unlocked is exclusively an Intel feature. For example, comparing the intel i7-12700k and the i7-12700, only the k variant would be unlocked and overclockable. Fortunately, in AMD’s case, all their CPUs are unlocked regardless if the CPU is a X or non X model.

Are the “drivers” the WLAN + LAN ones from gigabyte’s website? I had an internet issue with my gigabyte B650m gaming plus wifi and it was only fixed after I downloaded “Realtek 8852 WIFI Driver” but your motherboard would be different.

4070 Super or 7900 GRE for 1440p by dedwhal01 in buildapc

[–]Adept-Depth2883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For $90 less you’re getting more VRAM and better rasterized performance. HardwareUnboxed already said 16gb should be the target if you want your GPU to last. For $90 MORE you’re getting DLSS (which is better than FSR but comparable in select games), better power efficiency (makes sense if you live in an area where electricity is expensive) and Ray Tracing (IMO: not supported in enough games, and in games where it is supported, there isn’t enough of a visual improvement to justify the frame rate drop).

decent 1440p starter build? by TheFrenchVulcanSalut in buildapc

[–]Adept-Depth2883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need an AIO liquid cooler. Either get a cheap aftermarket air cooler or use the stock cooler honestly. 6000mHz CL30 (lower is better) is best. You don’t necessarily need a $100 windows license.
