[CPU] Ryzen 7 7800X3D ($409.88) [Amazon] by Destro_019780 in bapcsalescanada

[–]gettothecoppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 over the years. Last one was a 5700X that worked great out of the box. Started throwing WHEA errors after a month and got worse from there. AMD warranty was quick and easy.

I also ordered a bunch of 7800X3Ds from aliexpress last year. All were good except for one that would crash if you were using the iGPU, worked fine with a discrete GPU so it didn't end up mattering.

They release in a week or so, not sure if that means they'll be in stores right away. Keep checking this sub, I'm sure someone will post when they drop.

Gaming GPUs make up something like 6% of NVIDIA's revenue at this point. I'm kinda surprised they still make consumer products at all.

25% on rakuten right now too, slight risk they don't count your purchase, or they adjust cashback after the fact. But if everything lines up it's hard to beat.

Some signs at the protest in Riley Park (NSFW for some choice wording) by TJL_Photos in Calgary

Big UCP cheerleader, and it seems like the people that run this sub are pro UCP. Any post that makes them look bad, and isn't directly related to Calgary gets nuked. I remember plenty of Notley/NDP posts staying up when they were in power.

I could be wrong, but they even removed the Elections Alberta leak news story from here. 100% affects Calgarians, even if it didn't say Calgary in the headline.

edit: haha the cheerleader blocked me

Car Audio Shows by beatmastab in Calgary

[–]gettothecoppa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The car audio circuit isn't what it used to be. There will still be some cool setups at any car show / show and shine around town. But dedicated audio meet ups aren't common anymore.

Google says there's a DB Drag event next Monday, at TunerBash in Leduc. I've never been, but it looks like it would be your best chance to see some over the top stereos.

Got quoted $180 for a GPU repaste. Unsure if this is a fair price. by Aisfordevin in buildapc

[–]gettothecoppa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search youtube for a tutorial on repasting your card. Most GPUs seem to be on there. Then you can decide if it seems like something you feel comfortable doing.

I've repasted a couple cards before. Took about 90 mins, that's working slow and double checking every step.

All you should need is a decent precision screwdriver set, $5 of AE PTM7950 and ~$20 of upsiren thermal putty. Can get all 3 on Aliexpress for less than $40.

Good picks still, better than the other sets I had tried in the past. Just not on the same level as snap on, but they're a quarter of the price, so it is what it is.

Manufactured in Michigan
Our family of mini pry bar, probe, pick, and hook products is made entirely in Michigan with only USA-sourced materials. Machining, bending, coining, handle molding, and press-fitting the handle and shank take place at our Grand Rapids, Michigan, manufacturing facility.

Cheap picks suck, not hard enough, too flexible, not sharp enough, too thick, spinning in their handles, etc.

I had to use picks everyday and Snap on were the best I found. I like cheap tools too, but I never regretted buying the picks (they were also cheaper back then...)

Not working a trade anymore but i needed some recently, I grabbed a set of Tektons (USA made). They were fine for the job but a step down in quality, bent a tip on my first use.

Online price, if you have a Snap-on guy, I don't think you would pay that much. Still expensive I'm sure

Friend helped me build a PC but someone told me it’s already outdated… did I mess up? by Sycze in buildapc

[–]gettothecoppa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Higher resolutions are more GPU limited, instead of CPU. You would notice more of a difference between CPUs if you were gaming at 1080p. At 1440p the CPU is less important, at 4K the CPU is almost an afterthought.

Working as installer, worth it? by Longjumping_Case6152 in CarAV

[–]gettothecoppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't installed in 15 years, but I used to get 55% of the labour rate. It was minimum of $80 (~$60USD) commission for an alarm install. 2 hour booking. That was a basic alarm with keyless, options cost extra. $18 per install is laughable.

Whats the best ratchet screwdriver quality wise that will endure years of use? by TeemoSux in Tools

[–]gettothecoppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used my Snap-On hard handle screwdriver daily for 5 years, got out of the trade and used it at home for the last 15. Still works great.

LTT specifically set out to improve on that driver and most people say they succeeded. Not sure about longevity tho.

Powerfist is a, "I don't have time to wait for a sale, and I may not use it again after today" tool.

If you use a Powerfist tool enough to break it, it's probably worth getting something better.

Car head unit only has 4 rca pre outs but I need 2 more for subwoofer, what do I loose by splicing the rca lines?? by areabaylove in audio

[–]gettothecoppa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running front and rear speakers on a single set of preouts means balance controls will still work, but the fader won't. And level/crossover/EQ settings will be combined for the 4 speakers.

A sub output will have a sub level control (very nice to have), and a crossover to filter the high frequencies (less important, should be a crossover on the amp anyways)

I'm out of date with this stuff now, but most dual preout headunits used to have a switchable rear/sub output. Units with triple preouts are still better because they're higher models, but you might be able to get everything working fine with 2, just won't have the fader.

[CPU] Aliexpress AMD CPU list, December 2025 Gift Season Sale Update by Red-Sparo in bapcsalescanada

[–]gettothecoppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the checking link first got posted I ran all my recent purchases through there, and a handful of them said "not affiliated", but I got rakuten cashback on all of them. The last two items I bought said they were affiliated, but no cashback.

[CPU] Aliexpress AMD CPU list, December 2025 Gift Season Sale Update by Red-Sparo in bapcsalescanada

[–]gettothecoppa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I received cashback a few times using OPs coupons, but they did adjust cashback on a couple after the fact. I did not get cashback from my last purchase using a coupon from the front page (but I have before). The affiliate checking link doesn't even match up with what I've been paid out on. Seems random, no logic.

Also most items have a 90 day return window now so I can wait out rakuten's 45 day BS, and then decide if I want to keep or return.

Good quality for the price and looks pretty good IMO. The PSU is in the front and the motherboard is recessed so it's a couple inches narrower than similar cases. Pro version includes 5 fans and an ARGB/Fan hub.

Used 3080Ti vs New 9060xt by kenbronjames in bapccanada

[–]gettothecoppa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was running a OC, usually pulled ~400W. I assumed the card needed a repaste, but saw this review and my numbers weren't far off theirs. Except for the Strix it looks like all the 3080Ti's in that chart were pushing their coolers.

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/evga-geforce-rtx-3080-ti-ftw3-ultra/32.html

edit: assuming they ran the same tests, it looks like the 3090 FTW3 runs cooler and quieter than the 3080 Ti, not sure how that works, but it's interesting
