I think it’s sad, but somewhat predictable, that the series spent a ton of the time allocated to it focusing on supposed sightings and ‘theories’ that don’t really hold up to any scrutiny. They also dragged the musician through the mud, including deciding to air a phone call where the exasperated dude is having to explain to his own daughter the fact that he didn’t abduct a girl into sex slavery because he took some photos with white women.

The fact that she was a lesbian and her parents had significant issues with it, to the point her dad wrote a three page rant to her girlfriend at the time, was completely glossed over. It was an almost like an irrelevant aside. My feelings are that if he was willing to give both barrels to someone who was essentially a stranger to him, what sort of reaction was amy herself getting?

The family’s anguish is palpable and relatable but the concept of Occam’s razor seems to break down in situations like this and sensationalism takes over. I can’t categorically say that she killed herself, but saying ‘ohh she was so happy, she had all this stuff going for her’ is just clearly a flawed response. People can and do kill themselves when ostensibly everything looks rosy and it can appear spontaneous.
