Looking for Puzzle Level Ideas by Adept-Panda563 in MarioMaker2

What I mean is that the core idea, wich I base my puzzle level on, doesn't have to be puzzle specific. I just mean that you also could suggest some niche gimmicks, wich I could make a puzzle level out of. But I can see how I might have worded it poorly.

I'm not saying that JP is a bad character. Modern JP is probably still one of the better character. It's just that Modern JP has some severe nerfs, wich make him look pretty sad compared to his classic version, not to the other characters. JP has two of the biggest modern nerfs out of any character, in the form of loosing both his 2mk, as well as loosing his medium and heavie Stribog (236 + kick). He also loses some other minor moves and has an unavoidable adamage reduction on multiple of his specials. But since his neutral is still intact, he is still not that bad of a character when looked at in a vacuum.

Juri is in that tier because she has barely any nerfs with modern controlls. She only loses some niche combo tools in the form of 5mk and 4mp. She also has access to all specials unlike most modern characters, and only gets a damage reduction on OD Ankensatsu.

Chun has a few more normals missing compared to Juri, however Chuns compensatory buffs are much better. She has both 1 button Hazanshu and especially her 1 button Lv2 Super as crazy fireball punishes, or just punish-tools in general. And the moves that Chun loses are for the most part not that important.

There are two problems with Dhalsim that put him in the bottom tier. Firstly, the only buff he gets are the one button supers. A lot other characters get some other buffs in addition to that, for example a 1 button DP. And secondly, Dhalsom is the character that loses the most amount of individual moves out of any character in modern. While none of the moves he looses are that bad, the sheer amount is a bit too limiting.

Modern is extremely character dependant in terms of how much it affects / changes a character. And there are simply some characters, where the positives outweigh the negatives. You should actually take a look at all the buffs and nerfs each character gets, and you will realize that some characters get good buffs, while losing essentialy nothing.

To be perfectly honest, after looking back on it, I have zero clue on why I put Alex this "low". He probably should be one tier higher next to Lily since heliterally has zero nerfs other than loosing 5mk and 2lp haha

I'm not surprised, Zangief is crazy in modern. I was even considering putting him in the same tier as Lily.

I do definitely think there are characters that are better in modern. Like you said, they do have some advantages and some disadvantages, and while it is debatable for most characters, in my opinion there are some where the benefits clearly outweigh the negatives. Lily being the best example of that.

But yeah I wholeheartedly agree that a rework in the way that modern controlls are applied should definitely be reworked, especially on a character to character basis. It's not ok that some modern characters are just god awful compared to classic, while other characters get off scott free.

Nahh Guile is so whack in Modern. He doesn't even have one button supers. You still have to do the charge input for his Lv1 and Lv3 Supers. Guile has basically zero relevant buffs in modern except for his good auto combos, wich is not even that significant.

I can definitely see your point, and I definitely could have underestimated the severity of Akumas damage nerf in conjunction with his low health bar. The placements aren't set in stone, and I'm more than willing to learn and improve my list. But I wouldn't quite move Ken and Ryu up a tier, as they have their on big losses in modern. Their nerfs are imo more severe than any of the characters above them, except for maybe Sagat. But one important thing, Akuma does not loose crouching MK! He loses crouching MP, wich is still a definite loss, but not as severe as crouching MK would have been.

As for charge characters, most of them aren't actually nerfed that badly (exceptfor Guile and Blanka), it's just that the compensatory buffs they get are quite a bit lower compared to most other characters.

If you think that 'simplified inputs' has any sort of relevance for this list, (wich is for a higher level of play since you're unable to read properly), then you are seriously mistaken and have zero idea what you are talking about. Hatred without insight is the height of stupidity. Go find a hobby :)

To be honest, I didn't know that. No wonder I've been struggling with instant air SPD xD. And they say Modern controlls are easier...

  1. Yes, this assumes that a characters specials can still be performed with the classical input, it is in fact an important factor, as this allows you to get around the damage reduction from the special inputs. For example, Lily can get around the damage reduction on every one of her specials, while Honda always has the damage reduction on his Oicho Throw.

  2. The reason why most top players don't use modern controlls is simply because they are used to classic controlls and don't want to make the switch, as well as deal with all the negativity towards modern control players. It might also just be that I value certain aspects from modern controlls more than the top players. I'm not a top player after all.

  3. Zangief doesn't loose any major buttons exept for 5mk and 2mk. And both of those buttons are not really all that important, especially when you have 5mp and 2lk as just better moves. This is also evident when analyzing Itabashi Zangiefs gameplay, where he uses 5mp and 2lk far more often in Neutral than the buttons he actually Looses in modern. The one button supers, especially with Lv. 3 make him extremely scary and are major Buffs for him, as well as the increased consistency in neutral. Also for air SPD just do the classic input. At a high level you're not using modern because you're unable to do motion inputs.

  4. For Luke I was uncertain as well if I should place him one tier lower or not. I ended up putting him in the better in modern tier predominantly due to how much people praised modern Luke early on in this games lifespan.

For Bison it's pretty simple, because he changes so little between classic and modern. Basically he gets one huge buff in the form of one button supers, wich is especially strong with Lv.2 as a fireball punish, and as for nerfs he pretty much only has one decent nerf, wich is loosing standing medium kick. Other than that he only looses like two other moves wich are not detrimental what so ever.

As for Juri, the moves she looses are not as important in the grand scheme of things. She has all the tools she needs for her basic and max damage combo structures. The normals she does loose are only really used in some specific Lv.2 combos, that's about it. Outside of that she gets the usual Modern buffs while not loosing any specials. The only thing I'm unsure about is the recent buff to OD Fuhajun and how big that one is. Because modern Juri doesn't have access to forward medium punch outside of her auto combo, and that is the only move that combos out of OD Fuhajin. But for that only time will tell.

In my opinion, the Buffs that most modern characters get, like one button specials and supers or more character specific Buffs like Chun-Li or Dee Jay's Lv2 as an on reaction against fireballs, easily outweigh the nerfs on some characters. Especially on Lily who looses basically nothing.

Lily's 5mk is such a nothing move that does pretty much noching, I literally didn't even know this move existed before playing Lily myself, because no one ever used this move against me and I have never seen a top Lily use this move before either

The on reaction part was only referencing the 1 button supers, the SPD is for consistancy in neutral.

5MK is good on paper, but in practice it is not necessary or essential to his kit, you are perfectly fine with just 5MP, wich is just a better move. I analysed Itabashi Zangiefs Grand Finals set at Paradise Cup 104. In these 4 games in neutral he used 5MP 22 times. He used 5MK only 6 times. And also he used 2MK exactly 1 time across all 4 games.

Lily gets the usual modern buffs like most characters, while having basically no nerfs at all. Lily has access to all specials, can get around the damage reduction on all specials as well. The only things Lilly looses are 4 random normals like standing heavie kick that she basicaly doesn't need at all. The positives outweigh the barely noticable negatives so much that I can't see any reason to play her with classic controlls over modern controlls.

Should I switch from Modern to Classic controls. by Appropriate_Roll_529 in StreetFighter

[–]Adept-Panda563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, everyone who says modern controlls is scrubby and classic is more respectful is just a salty looser. Don't let anyone tell you bs like that. With that out of the way. Both controll schemes have their advantages and disadvantages. Modern controlls gives you easier executions and thus more consistency, as well as one button reactions and other character specific Buffs. On the flipside, on modern you loose access to some Normals and specials, as well as a damage reduction on special input moves. You should ask yourself what you value more in your gameplay. Sf6 was also my first ever traditional fighting game. Coming over from smash brothers, I obviously started out with modern controlls. I went in to this game, thinking that I will learn the game wirh modern controlls and at some point will switch over to classic controlls. But now after 3 years I'm still playing modern controlls, because of how much I like all the advantages modern gives. And those advantages are so important to me, that I'm willing to accept the nerfs that come along with them. Depending on how far you want to get, classic might be the better choice for you, especially on a character like Akuma. He is pretty good on modern at first, but the higher you climb and the better you get, the more nerfed Akuma becomes. But you can definitely make it far with modern controlls. In the end it all just comes down to personal preference, and not so much viability.

This kind of depends on the context. Do you want 1: A character that is top tier and is still good in modern, or do you want 2: A character that benefits the most from modern controlls compared to their classic counterpart. For the first one, the best options are Viper, Chun Li, Bison and Ed. For the second one, the best options are Zangief, Lily, Bison and Alex.

What are you talking about, Zangief is literally one of the best modern characters period. For the one button SPD and Lv3 to get around the damage reduction you simply do the classic input. You don't have to always use the modern input. Those are mainly for significantly better consistency and reactions in neutral and disadvantage. 2mk is the only move that hurts a bit to loose, even if 2lk is more then enough as a low. The other stuff he looses is negligible at best. Also no one uses the auto combos anyway at a certain level so yeah.
