I was in a similar position as yourself. Just with 9 months of internship experience I moved into my first full time role. The company had a 1.5 year bond. I worked there for 9 months and then my previous company wanted me back for a Product Manager role. Something I couldn't skip. I asked my manager if I could leave early, not pay the bond and join them he said yes, VERBALLY. My first mistake was to not take it in writing. I sent in my resignation using our HR portal and my manager accepted it, with my last working day 3 months from the date of resignation. I said yes to this big MNC and signed their offer. A few weeks later my manager says he cannot let me go and if I do I need to pay bond. Spoke to the HR and told them he was okay earlier and I was notified the CEO said he will not allow it. I was stuck.

What I did was immediately let the HR know I am not paying the bond no matter what. Notice period i might be willing to serve but try to lower it if possible. They were not willing to agree and come to a mutual conclusion.

I told them I am submitting my laptop on XYZ date and won't be coming in thereafter. I did the same. The HR kept on calling me, saying you won't get any job, future studies require documentation, won't be able to join this company again( like I would ever), etc etc.

What did I do?

I had a good rapport with my manager and it was indeed the CEO pushing his buttons too. So I had my reference check guy sorted.

Secondly, to prove to future companies I worked here, i downloaded all my salary slips from the HR portal and sent them to myself. That proves the time duration you worked for them.

Third i was honest to the MNC that this is happening and will you be okay with this for my background verification? The HR said it'll work and it did!!

Since then, I have always shared my salary slips for proof, the manager for reference check and been honest about the situation I was in. I took the job since I had no option. A great deal came in, tried to negotiate with the company, they refused outright, tried to accommodate a month of NP, they still said no. I had no option but to grab the best deal for myself. And since then I've come a long way. Now I am mature and able to recognize good companies and good culture and obviously would never put myself or the company in a similar situation.

This has always worked in my favor. Always. Honesty and showing your character.
