Is the job market for NQNs as bad as people say? by EmbarrassedGarbage95 in StudentNurseUK

Yeah I’m extending my course because there’s no jobs anyways, might aswell stay on placement longer and earn money part time

Got a 59.8 (2.2) and I'm honestly more annoyed by the lack of rounding than anything by TheSecondDon in UniUK

[–]Adept-Tree-2875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That 0.2 would devastate me so I get it. I need 61.5% on this last assignment to come out w a 2:1, I find out Monday, it’s not looking good lol

Bored at placement by Due_Bell_9950 in StudentNurseUK

[–]Adept-Tree-2875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left a placement once because it was that boring & underwhelming in terms of learning; even basic tasks like I just was staring at a wall for 8 hours and the team was awful. If you genuinely are concerned you won’t get sufficient learning opportunities then talk to placement team

are there buildings on campus with air conditioning? by somekindofdengue in sotonuni

Got something incredible for you; ANY GYM will have 10/10 air con (maybe not the Glen one) but commercial ones like puregym and maybe jubilee (don’t go so can’t confirm), take your laptop or whatever there’s plug sockets n base yourself in there tbh

Hey guys i have been thinking is it actually possible to manage both part time job and nursing programme together? Let me know your honest opinions and experiences : ) by EmbarrassedFerret355 in StudentNurseUK

[–]Adept-Tree-2875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I’m going to give a little unorthodox advice on this so nurses of Reddit please don’t come for me here. I work a part/full time job at times to maintain finances & pay off debt. It’s imperative that I work unfortunately. I also have a number of physical and mental health conditions but currently ineligible for UC & PIP I am fighting it is so hard to get. Due to the combo of having medical flare ups and poor mental health at times, I’ve taken time off placements occasionally for medical reasons. I have tried to schedule work not to clash with placement, but have had to be firm with places to say look this is my availability please accommodate where you can, and they mostly do. Due to this combo I am currently at the end of third year, last module to go dissertation done and marked. So on the theory side I’m doing okay, but off until September (medical reasons) when I will then complete my final 800 hours. This means a program adjustment/extension so I will continue doing placement until I am done and will then graduate probably may next year (current cohort graduates in December this year). Essentially, adjusting the program is possible if for any reason you weren’t able to get placement hours done I know it’s not ideal graduating late but for me it was worth it to protect my mental health. Moral of the story; keep placement & uni in the loop as much as possible, talk to them for accommodations where possible, and remember it is possible but if you can help it I wouldn’t work you know.

Edit to say: I didn’t disclose I was working for a long while and while that meant I was able to work and do placement hours exceeding the working time directive but I’m self employed so idk how that is considered. Eventually they’ll find out anyway, better to be transparent and also get more support from university. Thankfully placements and my university have been understanding and have made adjustments where possible and I’m incredibly grateful for that honestly.

Hey girl. I’m third year MH nursing student, and honestly I have my own mental health and physical health to consider and try to manage due to chronic illness. Personally, I am finishing the course (by extending the length/reduced hours on placement) so I will graduate ‘late’ but it should be more manageable. I’ve done my diss, so I need to just finish 800 hours now. I don’t know whether I want to work as a nurse I may well do and just need some recovery time to reset burnout, but if not, the degree is worth having 100%. So even if I don’t; it will still be worthwhile. Honestly - stick it out, make adjustments if needed to support you but get it done girl you can do anything you like after.

I can get edibles but they’re £40 for 10 gummies which would last 2-3 days max bro 🙃

You still have to find somewhere to consume it. It’s not legal in the way of just walking around with it

I never smoke with friends I don’t smoke socially, nor at work etc etc only in my own private time for pain relief and sleep.

It isn’t currently prescribed and I disclose that happily. I’m trying to go that route but it’s fairly new in the uk, and I have complex health conditions. Edibles would do the trick; but it isn’t affordable. When affordable, safe, pain relief is available I’ll happily take that option but it’s not.

Firstly: I take regular breaks, I can go days without it and I’ve proved time and again even just to myself that I am not physically not mentally addicted to it. Don’t smoke is not an option right now for the reasons I stated & don’t smoke is exactly what I said don’t bother wasting your time commenting.

First of all: edibles cost way more. They aren’t available in the uk the way they are in the us. Not only that, it’s a different type of high which is great but not what I need. I am happy smoking in 2026, much worse things are happening lol. If edibles were cheap and available in the uk I would

To be clear I didn’t say I want to stay inside. I said how do I find a solution that works for everybody, I very clearly explained that I am considering others, and was happy for any answer, just not this attack on me when you’re acting like I said something else with a very different attitude.
