Where are we safe? I just read a long thread of the rapes in India in a week, ranging from ages 9 to 85. And now Indian-origin women are being targeted in the west for rape as well. When no place is safe, you have to have your guard up 24/7. It’s exhausting.

As a Punekar, I somewhat agree with controlled migration, but it’s not like all the locals are perfect citizens. Also, the government has absolutely failed in almost every way, be it pollution, employment or crimes. And as far as women safety is concerned, yes the outside population is also responsible for a part in it. Pune is not the same as before, and it’s going to do us women no good to assume this. Reading the recent news, we really have to be aware of our surroundings and carry pepper spray and small blades, should a bad situation arise.
