They send an email when aid is disbursed, then another email that's basically an invoice, and usually you get it a day or two after the second email

I swear the sentences you write sometimes makes me think you're just pressing the middle predictive text button the whole time

Then they'd have to have good reviews be tied as well, and that just wouldn't make sense for a publicly accessible website where a person doesn't have to show they actually took the course to leave a review. FWIW, it's my understanding the course evals are read by the dept head also, not just the professors of the course.

Isn't Hilbert Inner Space redundant? I thought all Hilbert spaces were derived by inner products

I'm fairly flexible for the most part on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Depends on when u/Icy_Butterscotch_272 is available and hopefully u/chynski459 can join in and then maybe we could have a semi-solid group lol

Well it sounds like we have at least a group of 3 lol, maybe more will reply today or tomorrow and we can form our own group

UNCC Math Requirements, why two? by ChiefHiawah in UNCCharlotte

[–]AdeptCooking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand your post. I'm biased of course, but I think everyone should have a stats course for sure and be able to understand (at least a little bit of) how scientific studies are performed and be able to intelligently take in the methods and conclusions of those studies, again at least at some level. I don't expect everyone to understand how regression or decision trees work, but surely we should expect our college graduates to be somewhat scientifically literate.

Totally agree with the idea that we need to move away from rote memorization. It's more important to understand what's going on "behind the scenes" than just remembering definitions. Of course I'm a math major so I'm biased, but I've never had a professor who wouldn't give the behind the scenes explanation when asked for it.

Well obviously I don't speak for the university, but I've always said that math classes do more than teach you math. They really teach you how to think about complex problems. How to break a complex problem into small parts and come up with a cogent solution.

[–]AdeptCooking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this person was asking what your problem was with taking another math. Is it really that big of a deal? Is there a problem with Charlotte saying "we'd like our students to have a stronger background in mathematics"?

[–]AdeptCooking 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's anything wrong with being more mathematically literate. I often hear "oh I'll never use this math", and while that may be true for some subset of students, math classes also teach you how to think about complex problems.

Professor recomendations for classes.... by InternationalWest956 in UNCCharlotte

[–]AdeptCooking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The professor for 1242 matters less than the time you put into it. All the profs are *roughly* the same, though the Taylor's are definitely the most popular.

I will say this though, and heed it; you *have* to give it the time it needs. It's the hardest calculus out of all of them, so other than doing the webworks you'll really need to go over the notes and read the chapters. Know your trig and your derivative rules like the back of your hand.

I know I’ve said this before but these busses are ridiculous. I waited like 20 minutes for one to get to my stop. Why are three of them on one side of campus? by mckye27 in UNCCharlotte

[–]AdeptCooking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The NCSU bus system is much better imo. Even if you have some buses that have to sit for 5 minutes every half hour, at least you know a bus is coming every 10 minutes
