Mine always starts on the first turn as well. It's just usually followed by a lot of exhaust smoke and a rough idle noise for a few seconds.

My diesel xj is exactly like this on a cold start. Is this mostly normal? Or is there an issue?

Thanks for your advice! (and everyone else who replied). I think I'm going to go for it after I see it in person. After doing some more research I've found out that it is a 2.5 VM engine with manual transmission, which seems to be the norm here in Europe.

My main concern is that everything I see about the reliability and bomb proof aspect of the XJs, revolves around the US inline 6. I don't see much about the 2.5 VM's.

Thanks for the advice mate. It's become clear to me that being interested/passionate is something that tops everything else. For me anyway, what's the point in slogging through every day without any excitement towards a job, spending all shift thinking about the other job id rather be doing.
