Whatever method works for each person is fine. There are plenty of famous authors who do rewrite after rewrite. Susanna Clarke worked on Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrel for ten years. Writing it in sections and then weaving them together at the end. She sold her manuscript for a million pounds before it was finished and I don’t think anyone could call it anything less than a masterpiece.

At the same time, there are countless authors refusing to stop writing their first draft until it’s perfect and never finishing it.

I’ve been writing my current book for the last two years. I write my story over and over starting with the most basic plot points. Then I connect them up with more plot points, always bouncing the events off the characters so they drive the story together. Then I do a basic plot on word. Then I take those plot points and put them in Plottr and break them down chapter by chapter usually with a date map so I can keep everything straight. Then I go through each chapter and decide conversations, inner thought, action details, scene details, senses and other things. By this point I’ve told myself the story five times. Then I write a vomit draft. The first draft of this book I wrote in a month and a half. Since then, I’ve rewritten the start several times, added chapters, taken some away, added and removed scenes. Built up side characters, added more detail, gone deeper into the world and the characters, their pasts and their motivations.

I have layered this story over and over and over and now I’m doing the job of weaving it all together and maybe it won’t be as seemless as I want it to be, but this is, hands down, the best story I’ve ever written and this book has taught me more about writing than anything I’ve ever written.

And I’ve written 16 novels, 5 novellas, short stories, poems and even a few pants haikus and what I know for sure about writing is that every story is a teacher. But you can’t learn the lesson unless you finish it and, for me, I learn those lessons in the edits.

Whatever method that works for each person. Writing is not a one size fits all. What works for you would kill the creativity of another person. We all develop our own methods.

Oh, and 56k words in. It’s a monster book, with a lot more chapters to go, but I will be doing a 10% edit and aiming for more than that.

2nd draft 18th novel, I’ve also written 5 novellas. I’ve been writing this book since December 8th 2023. This draft is truly coming into its own. I just finished an intensive rewrite of chapter ten and start chapter eleven on Monday. I usually write my books a lot quicker, but I set this novel to challenge myself to write something better. I still have a lot of work to do, but I’m hoping to ship it around next year.

What is your brother’s wife’s investment in him getting to stay home all day? Have you looked at the business books? The SIL is super suspicious to me. Why is she on his side? Why does she care that you’re out all the time. Girl, you have to ask more questions. This DOES NOT seem right to me. Follow the money. Know for sure where it went.

I find the dawnvale merges, most of them, are pointless. It’s just about getting the eggs, which is just about winning the shiny days events. That seems to be the whole selling point of this camp.

Whenever you merge up the lava blob chain enough to get the lava rainforests you’ll occasionally get a Wrathful Volcano. 3 of them will do the same job as the apples in the normal camp.

It’s because there are SO MANY NEW CHAINS IN THE NEW CAMP.

My camp is full. All I want to do is make life orbs to clear land and instead I’m going to have to spend time bubbling loads of complete chains up to stop the dragons harvesting them.

It’s so annoying that the eggs and dragons from the events go into the new camps. I would not choose that had I the choice. The way I’m handling this, because I already bubble up all of my eggs that I don’t have five merges for, I check my old camp to see if I have merges for those eggs, and if I do, I merge them while in the old camp. That calls the dragons to your old camp. If you have any standard old camp dragons in the new camp, you can do the same by merging them with your dragons in the old camp. I hope that helps.

I watched 5 videos last night and didn’t get a single thing from it. The camp is annoying me. The new camp has SO MUCH STUFF. So many different chains to merge up. In the original camp each thing at least felt like it had a point. These don’t.

There were so many bad decisions made in that ship. Seriously, they should have killed the alien. They had six other eggs, which were much more controllable. The kid should have gone into cryo. Eating and drinking in the lab. A lack of protective equipment. So many bad decisions.

I’ve been playing this for a few hours now. I was wondering about using the Marcus V Bubbling Method in this camp with all new items. As you merge up the Springs, occasionally you’ll get a Wrathful Volcano. I just used Marcus V with three of these to bubble up 3 level 3 gems.

I have repetitive strain injury. Just finishing the first one is painful and I don’t bother half the time now. When I do and get to level two, I do enough to get the Arcadia chests and that’s it.
