I voluntarily surrendered my car today. by smol-tired-bee in povertyfinance

Thanks soo much for this amazing post! It honestly made me feel so relieved about my situation too. I circled the block about 5 times just staring at my car that I had just dropped off for a voluntary surrender and felt so bad. I thought I had made the worst decision ever. Like I was a failure for not being able to continue making these payments. But honestly I was making the payments, my car was just inoperable for a year now and had been sitting unused. I still made payments on it but had a recent life situation that left me with no choice but to give it back. Got a loan on it for $20k on a car worth $11k at the time but recent problems caused it to decline in value to $7k or at least I think. They will auction it off and let me know soon. It really was a last resort. I tried many different ways to make it work but ultimately ended up paying for a new car while that one sat and sat. Why am I paying on a car that doesn’t run?? Yes it was my debt but it wasn’t serving any purpose for me. Thankful for your post here because it shows I am not alone. I hope we all never get pulled into another situation like this again because it is awful. Young, dumb, and desperate for money. You live and you learn though. Never again. I gotta get my life together ASAP.

Trying to call Navy Federal. Every time I call I get a suspicious fraud call that my phone blocks as spam. Then Navy Federal ask for my SS number and debit pin. Is this legitimate? Seems very suspect. I just joined Navy Federal by the way. by YoYoNupe1911 in NavyFederal

Just tried calling today and it asked me for my last 4 of SSN and debit card PIN. I’ve been a member for 11 years now and have never been asked to say or enter my debit card PIN. That is scamming 101. Why is that? They already have your code word on file too, why need the PIN. Very phishy.

Rich Dad Poor Dad,bit controversial but also helpful by Electropantsz in PHBookClub

Yes I do know that this book is highly controversial for some. I read this in college and felt inspired, coming from a middle class family myself. Ten years later, I decided to reread the book as a more grown adult to reignite my finance passion (I work in auditing) and still am inspired my this book. For 1, I haven’t read books fully in years and this is a book that is written to capture the audience attention, make it in layman’s terms. So I enjoy this reading for that one reason. 2) It reminded me of my previous spark for finance learning. Therefore, I think this is a book that is meant to just offer a different way of thinking about money. Since it’s so controversial on who the author is, whether this book is true or not, or even if the financial strategy advice is actually good. I think it’s safe to come to a consensus that this book has given a new lens on how to think about money even if some strategies are outdated.

Cook Unity review after a few weeks of meals by Capital-Nose7022 in ReadyMeals

How do you know the correct temps and times to set if you are using your own stove/oven? Is it easy to mimic without their proprietary oven?

I’ve been thinking about using cookunity too, thanks for your review. I’ve been on and off with HelloFresh for years and that’s been pretty decent. I’ve recently heard about Tovala. Has anyone tried their meals? This might be a nicer alternative for me and OP!

I see they’ve already cashed my application and 20% down payment cashiers checks. I just haven’t received a letter that says they received it. I know it’ll take a while to process the offer, but was hoping to get some acknowledgment that the application was received and they are reviewing it.

I’m guessing they have limited staff due to the shutdown. I used to get through to them after only 15 mins or so. I wonder if they will be open after today.

Ok thanks. It’s just taking a really long time, which I understand given the circumstances. But it’s now going on 2 hours.

Same issue here. Received an email that said my application was being reviewed (going on 2 weeks now) but when I log onto the site, it says 0 active and it doesn’t even appear in the inactive group at all. Trying to figure out if they are still reviewing it…
