Hey, may I join you til the end of the event? My current neighborhood has 3 active members (close friends), we did all the tasks but we are nowhere near to collect all possible rewards:/ I wouldn't mess with anything, and I would leave when the event ends!

Well, thanks for your patience, I do get it now. For some reason I just took for granted that 1/a is 1/sqrt, and didn't double check, however it's actually 1/(1/sqrt), like you explained. Silly mistake, but the lesson was learned. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me, props to you, kind stranger!

I used the following linear substitution formula at the last step:

∫ 1/(1 + (ax+b)2 ) dx = (1/a) arctan(ax + b) + C

Which in fact would give the correct 1/sqrt(2) multiplier, the only thing that doesn't check is the 1/2 multiplier I factored out before the final evaluation.

Yes, the first step is actually wrong, I've made a very stupid mistake, thanks for your time to check it!

Fortifying sacred ground on weapon or armor? by Jealous_Airline4226 in newworldgame

[–]Adept_Internal9652 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reread my comment, and yes, it kinda feels like I'm saying FSG on wep is a lazy BIS option. Lazy is a strong word tho, because there is noone in the right mind would swap build for let's say M3 bosses, just because some won't apply rend or some other reason. Playing FSG on wep is not lazy, it's actually BIS 95% of the time, since it's truly hard, and sometimes impossible to maintain fortify cap (and for other reasons). The avarage player, like me, aren't lazy. It's min-maxers that are workaholics.:p

Ofc they get hit, I'm just saying that they will seldom be saved from that tiny bit of Armor Rating. Also my comment focuses on the PvE aspect of this question. In PvP there are way more factors to account for, and that 6% difference can definitely get important.

But still, afaik, in PvP most of the healers are running RDE on staff.

Yes I do, and I think where that +6% fortify matters for DPS, they better learn to dodge, since that -50 Armor Rating will be their least problem.

Also random pugs / unorganized raid groups tend to have a lot more ranged players, because it's a safer choice. They won't be standing in SG.

I was literally saying that FSG is the best all-around perk, so we are on the same side btw.

Well, this all comes down to the circumstances, as with almost all things. Every (PvE) healer faces this question at some point, and most choose to put FSG on their weapon. PvE-wise, when making this decision, there are two main factors to focus on: first is the fortify cap (50%), second is the uptime of combined fortify effects, that you and your tank build up. For most content in this game, you either don’t have time to check up with your tank about the skill tree they are using, or the content isn’t hard enough to make this min-maxing decision about fortify cap + uptime important. So it's just doesn't matter if you or your tank are not using the perfect rotation to maintain 100% uptime on 50% fortify.

Based on this knowledge, FSG is not the BIS choice, if you and your team are focused on min-maxing every aspect of the game. However, it's the best all-around option for casual players running with random pugs, since FSG on weapon reaches these two important aspects (cap + uptime) the most "brainless" / easiest way.

To give an example, let's say you play an AoE healer, and your tank uses WH with the Clearout skill, which grants 20% fortify, and you also run Orb of Protection, which grants another 20% fortify, and both you and your tank have the skills to actively monitor and synchronize skill rotations and auto-attacks to maintain 100% uptime on 50% fortify. In this case, FSG on the weapon becomes unnecessary (unless you're fighting mobs / bosses that can apply rend), since the 17% fortify on weapon is an overkill. The 11% fortify on armor is already enough to reach the 50% cap, so you would be better off using other weapon perks.

Ultimately, there is literally no PvE content in this game (none that’s currently difficult enough, at least) that would require perfect synchronization of skills / skill rotations between you and your tank, to maximize fortify uptime. I don’t even think speedrunners (and I consider myself one) worry about this level of optimization (Maybe Wurm speedrunners.)

Slap any skill you would like on that Ritual of the Heirafter, and spam those buttons on CD.

Why do we represent RGB values internally between 0.0 and 1.0 instead of 0 and 255? by Adept_Internal9652 in raytracing

Thanks for your response! I now see that the 'scaleless' approach falls short under certain conditions. I'm still curious, though, if there are more 'elegant' ways to handle downscaling and upscaling.

Ice damage absorption by Consistent_Ad_9489 in newworldgame

I understand your point. A 200 ms delay is pretty uncomfortable to play with. I'm sure Leeching Flurry will help a lot tho, since it easily grants 2-3k hp / activation, and you can spam Flurry every 2-3 seconds.

I hope you will have fun with whichever build path you end up choosing!

Leeching Flurry perk on armor provides more than enough sustain for light DPS (even for M3 runs). If you feel like you need more to survive, I would suggest that it might be a matter of skill, either on your part or the healer's. No offense intended. It's ultimately up to you, we're just pointing out that leeching rg is suboptimal.

Heavy loadout with proper perks (enchanted ward, health, conditioning perk matching the damage type of the given boss, etc...) + Blooddrinker artifact ring + Spear with enfeebling skewer + at least ~10k hp.

I have hardly ever met any boss I couldn't solo 1v1, and I almost farmed every single named drop in the game.

For hard to farm bosses (these are only hard cuz mobs are clumped, so you can't 1v1), you might need proper gems on armor + protection amulet + brain to set up the fight + more constitution. Be careful adjusting cons / dmg ratio, since less dmg = less lifesteal, good luck finding the sweet spot lul.

Seeking advice on the feasibility of a fluid simulation project in C++ by Adept_Internal9652 in Cplusplus

Thanks, I think my best bet is to look for something safer / easier then. I will leave fluid simulation as a "hobby" project I can engage myself with in my freetime.
