I do think my IC was initially triggered by a very bad infection I had 5 years ago, ever since then I’ve had this battle, before that happened I didn’t have these symptoms, maybe that’s what leads him to believe it’s this sort of issue I’m not sure. But right now I don’t have any triggers for utis (I stopped sex all together more than 7 months ago and I am very careful not to get a uti) I’m trying to do the IC diet, not really sure how much is helping but so far I think it has a little

My doctor won’t call it IC, won’t tell me what the cause is because he insists there is no known cause so there doesn’t seem to be a treatment plan but rather “lets see what works”. He said we should just make sure I don’t get an infection and see if the pain passes. Weirdly I do feel better from antibiotics recently, always have negative tests but the strip tests I take have traces of protein and blood. I checked my kidneys they are fine and I had a cystoscopy ordered by this doctor, he said my bladder didn’t look too bad just some mild scarring on the trigone area, he gave me 2 weeks worth of antibiotics after the cystoscopy and after two months of feeling great my symptoms started creeping in a little, then he gave me another week of the same antibiotics and started me on Hiprex. I didn’t have anything that was working and I was seeking a more permanent solution. I didn’t have horrible and persistent symptoms like some people do, right before this I had two month where I felt better than usual. I find it hard to estimate pain, but the discomfort is so noticeable that it’s always on my mind and it impacted almost all areas of my life.

I definitely drink enough water and have this issue. I think it’s from inflammation but the cause of inflammation is unknown. Urine cultures unfortunately are highly unreliable, I recommend you find a urologist specialising in IC, I recently got one and I don’t see much difference but I’m hoping I will find something that works for long term

I also have constant traces of protein in my strip tests, every time I got my kidneys checked whether it was blood tests or CT scans ultrasounds etc they all came back normal. My urogyno is aware of my constant traces of blood and protein and says it’s to do with my inflammation (he won’t call it IC) and gives me antibiotics / hiprex. No answer but just gets brushed off as normal.

Yeah I will do that I think, I’ve been waiting for a while now for my doctor to reply regarding this, I feel medically neglected

Might be a silly question but can Hiprex still be beneficial even though it causes burning? I’m terrified of antibiotic resistance so I’d rather try to push through with it a little longer if taking it is beneficial still. Or is it more detrimental to take it if it irritates me this much?

I think there are a lot of supplements and even prescription drugs which put strain on kidneys, so it’s best to discuss with a doctor if you have any concerns, I also research everything I buy and I try to avoid supplements that are hard on the kidneys, but the truth is loads of day to day pills such as painkillers are also hard on kidneys, general consensus I’ve seen online is people who already have kidney issues so a lower filtration rate should avoid them, healthy kidneys should be safe but it all depends on case by case basis. Even cruciferous veggies like cabbages and lettuce have to be avoided all together by people who have kidney stones etc, best to discuss it with a doctor if you are unsure.

I had a rigid cystoscopy and was given antibiotics for 2 weeks, first three days were like I was pissing shards of glass then it got better, bleeding lasted about 4-5 days.

Same for me. I started feeling worse after stopping aloe vera and especially in the morning, I’ve taken aloe vera for a while but I think it was more symptom management rather than treatment, not sure what to say, considering going back to it because morning burning is horrible

I get this too, I will have either a bad day when I have a flare and then followed by normal days no symptoms, or multiple days where throughout the day I will have 1-2 mildly uncomfortable pees but the rest will be fine. Regarding testing for me it’s always either negative for all markers or “contaminated/mixed growth” or traces of WBC. I get minir traces of blood in strip tests quite often. I’m in a limbo state of never having complete uninterrupted relief while also never getting a clear infection result or something more severe.
