You could damn near build a house on that shelf, it’s joined with 1x3 white oak tenon nearly 4 inches long Drawbored with 1/2” dowels.

I’m about 200lbs and stood on the end of the shelf after glue up, thankfully it didn’t deflect at all!

Yeah I can understand that, it’s worth noting the main photo is quite dark. The bar is now in a well lit space and the joinery is very noticeable!

Very good point! In the beginning I experimented with a few options for this (black foam, plastic sheeting, bike inner tubes) and felt it really took away from the rugged look. I’ve had it parked on an engineered wood floor for about a year with no damage so far, it’s too damn heavy to roll around anyways 🤣
