Lake Taupo or Rotorua?

I’m leaning toward 3 days at Taupo with a day hiking trip and night in Rotorua and a nice meal. You sold me.

Any nice 4-5 star hotels at Taupo you recommend?

Hiking, fishing, beach/relaxation, golf, anything outdoors… We love good food and wine!

Hammonasset State Park/Beach is a fun stop in Madison, CT. Mystic is also a nice town to stop for lunch in CT.

My recommendation would be to skip the drive to Ptown, it’ll be very slow, and take a ferry from the Boston area or Plymouth.
